General Hospital’s Carly and Sonny Welcomed Donna and Other Memorable Moments from September 30

In 1996, Angie Hubbard (Debbi Morgan) wed Jacob Foster (Darnell Williams) on The City. Jacob was a dead ringer for Angie's beloved former husband, Jesse Hubbard, who had been killed in the line of duty on All My Children. (Darnell Williams played both roles.) The ceremony was performed by Nick Rivers, Buck Huston was the groom's best man, and Angie's bouquet was caught by Ally Rescott.

In 2009, Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) gave birth to Faith Newman, her daughter with Nick Newman, on Young and Restless. The circumstances of her birth were far from idyllic. She was institutionalized at the time, and after she delivered her baby, she lost consciousness. Devious Adam Newman then swooped in and kidnapped the tot, who was presented to Ashley Abbott as Ashley's newborn. Sharon was, of course, devastated when she was subsequently told that her baby had died. Ultimately, the baby-swapping scandal was exposed and Sharon was reunited with her daughter.

In 2013, Kimberly McCullough returned to General Hospital as Robin Scorpio-Drake, who had been presumed dead since the previous year — although the audience had known for many months that Robin was actually alive. McCullough had last appeared on screen in December 2012, when Robin's father, Robert Scorpio, was rendered comatose by Dr. Liesl Obrecht before he was able to rescue Robin from the evil clutches of her captors. Viewers first saw Robin in the lab on Cassadine Island, where she was being forced by Jerry Jacks to find a cure for polonium poisoning.

In 2019, General Hospital's Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) and Sonny (Corinthos) welcomed their daughter, Donna Corinthos. Carly's pregnancy had been a risky one, and in utero genetic testing had revealed that Donna had developed fluid around her spine. Later, they learned that their unborn child had Spina Bifida Myelomeningocele and would require surgery immediately after her birth. Carly and Sonny braced themselves for a birth via C-section, which took place after Carly went into premature labor. After the baby arrived, Carly and Sonny learned that Donna's condition was less severe than the doctors had anticipated, although she still underwent surgery, which she made it through with flying colors.

In 2019 on General Hospital, Michael E. Knight made his debut as attorney Martin Grey. The actor was already an established ABC Daytime superstar from his long, Daytime Emmy-winning run on All My Children as Tad Martin, and had also recently appeared on Young and Restless as Dr. Simon Neville. The actor told Soap Opera Digest that he had reached out to GH's executive producer, Frank Valentini, who he had known for several decades. "I’m definitely at a point where work is really, really precious,” he explained. “I got to a point in my life where I wanted to work and I needed to work. I’m not going to lie; I really did. It’s really, really quiet. And I started thinking, ‘You know, maybe, just maybe, there is a little bit of work out there [on GH].’ Frank and I go back years; I’ve known Frank since he was an associate producer [at One Life to Live]. I was thinking, ‘Could I reach out to Frank to see how he would react?’ ... So I reached out to Frank, and Frank sent me an email 24 hours later." After they connected, Valentini came back to him a week later with a job offer. "Frank says, ‘Okay, we’ve got a guy named Martin’ — and I really thought he was screwing with me,” since that was Tad’s last name on AMC, the actor recalled. “I was like, ‘Okay! Nothing like an inside joke with the audience!’ So, all credit seriously goes to Frank and huge, huge gratitude to [then Co-Head Writers] Chris [Van Etten] and Dan [O’Connor] for making it happen."
