In 1983, Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) and Holly Sutton (Emma Samms) shared their first kiss. The couple was already married, but the union had only taken place so that Robert could help Holly get a green card and avoid deportation. Watching the movie Rebecca together, Holly made a comment about one day living with Robert in a mansion like the one in the film. He asked her if she was happy being married to him and she told him she was, inspiring Robert to kiss his wife for the first time. Holly became anxious, though, confused about her feelings, and quickly headed upstairs — alone. 

In 1999, Eric Brady (Jensen Ackles) proposed marriage to Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker) on Days of Our Lives. Eric took Nicole to a property he was considering purchasing. He told her that he was serious about making a commitment to her, and he offered her a glass of champagne. Nicole observed that there was a diamond ring inside the flute. Eric extracted it, slipped it onto her finger and asked her to marry him.

In 2008, Martha Byrne last aired as Lily Walsh Snyder on As the World Turns. Save for a break from 1989-93, Oakdale mainstay Byrne had played Lily since 1985 — but she walked away from the show after contentious contract negotiations. The sticking point, Byrne explained to Soap Opera Digest, was that after taking a significant pay cut in her last contract, she wanted a guarantee that she would work the same number of days she’d worked the previous year — something she said she thought was a “workable solution.” (ATWT disagreed, releasing a statement defending their “incredibly generous offer.”) Byrne recalled, “About two hours later, they sent out a breakdown to recast.... I felt that it was a little extreme.” Her replacement, Noelle Beck, played Lily through to the show’s 2010 cancellation.

In 2011 on General Hospital, Jax (Ingo Rademacher, r.) warned Brenda (Vanessa Marcil) that Sonny (Maurice Benard) would not be able to keep her young son, Lucian, safe. He urged her to take the child and flee Port Charles. When Sonny entered the room, he could sense the tension. Jax snapped that he was giving Brenda something Sonny couldn't: honesty. "You think you can just walk into my house, talk smack about me to my wife?" Sonny railed at Jax. "I let you guys be friends because that's what Brenda wanted. But I'll cut that quick."

In 2013, Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) and Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) remarried on Bold and Beautiful. The ceremony was held at the Forrester estate, with Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor) serving as the officiant. At the time, the couple was happily looking forward to welcoming their first child, but not long after they said, "I do," Steffy miscarried after a motorcycle accident.
