Outstanding Lead Actor Winner
Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH)
In the press room, Benard admitted he was surprised to be the victor. “Well, you know there was some very tough competition,” he noted. “I just said, ‘All right,’ so I didn’t prepare a speech or anything and that’s a mistake [laughs]. You get shocked, you don’t have a speech, so that’s a double whammo. I don’t know what came out of me up there. I forgot Frank Valentini [executive producer] and I feel terrible. I forgot him and the writers. He understands. He knows I get so emotional.”
