Who Is Michael’s Father on General Hospital?
Family trees on soaps can often have some pretty twisted branches, leaving fans wondering how certain characters are related to others. For instance, while it’s pretty clear Carly is his mother, some fans might find themselves wondering who is Michael’s father on General Hospital. Well, allow us to clear it all up for you!
The short answer is, Michael’s father is A.J. Quartermaine, but like many kids in Port Charles, his paternity was kept secret at birth and led to no end of drama as the truth came out!
When Carly Benson discovered that she was pregnant, she decided that A.J. was not fit to be the father to her child and named Jason Morgan as the babydaddy. Then, once Michael was actually born, he wound up being raised by Jason and Robin Scorpio since Carly was suffering from postpartum depression. When the baby was christened, Emily Quartermaine and Mike Corbin were named his godparents.

Things got worse, however, when Carly’s ex, Tony Jones, kidnapped Michael, leading Robin to finally confess to A.J. the truth that he’s the boy’s real father. Once Michael was safe and sound, Carly attempted to raise him with A.J. but that fractured family never quite gelled and she went on to marry Sonny Corinthos, who later forced A.J. to give up all parental rights to Michael and adopted the boy himself.
When A.J. was murdered, young Michael was initially suspected of killing his biological father, but it turned out he’d only witnessed Dr. Asher Thomas commit the crime. As a teenager, Michael was surprised when it was revealed that A.J. was still alive, and he actually grew closer to his father as they worked to take over ELQ. However, believing A.J. had killed Kate, Sonny shot him in cold blood and was sent to prison. Horrified, Michael changed his last name to Quartermaine for a time to distance himself from the Corinthos family name.
Sonny and Michael have always had a contentious relationship, but remain father and son. And honestly, in soaps, that’s pretty much par for the course!
