What Does Adustus Mean on Young and Restless?

There’s a reason why everyone wants Adam to change the name of his company from Adustus on Young and Restless, and it’s not just because most people have no idea what the word even means! Adustus doesn’t really have the best meaning, at least not for a business that he’s trying to build into something special!

When Adam was given McCall Unlimited by Victor, he decided to rename it Adustus International and made plans to use it to take over Newman Enterprises. However, after Sharon inherited Kirsten Incorporated from the late Cameron Kirsten, she proposed merging the two companies and running the whole thing together with Nick. However, Nick and Sharon urged Adam to change the name of the company so it wouldn’t be called Adustus-Kirsten.

Adustus is from the Latin word adust, which Mirriam-Webster defines as scorched or burned, with archaic meanings being of a sunburned appearance or of a gloomy appearance or disposition. But Adam prefers the definition “scorched earth,” which is what he plans to leave in his wake. Though it could also be applied as referencing that he feels burned by everyone around him (not that Adam would ever admit it!).

Either way, it’s not exactly a particularly positive impression to make with the company’s name, and since Sharon is hoping to take all the torture that Cameron put her through and use Kirsten Incorporated to do some good in the world it really wouldn’t work for that!

Nick and Sharon have pushed Adam to come up with something other than Adustus, something that doesn’t have to do with revenge. Adam jokingly suggested “The Terrific Trio,” “The Gleeful Threesome,” and “The Three Stooges,” which Nick didn’t think was particularly amusing. Adam has promised to try and leave the darkness behind, but who knows if he’ll be able to keep that promise.
