Vivian (Louise Sorel) with Victor (John Aniston) and with Melanie (Molly Burnett).

Vivian Alamain has always been a diabolical force to be reckoned with on Days of our Lives, a woman known for orchestrating one devious plot after the next. Now that Louise Sorel, who originally portrayed the character from 1992-2000 and has returned for various stints throughout the years (2009-2011, 2017-2018, 2020 and 2023), is back for another run as the homicidal mastermind, Soap Opera Digest is taking a look back at five of Vivian’s wildest schemes on DAYS.

Burying Carly Alive

After faking Nicholas Alamain’s death as a baby and raising the child as her own, Vivian was livid when the boy reunited with his birth mother, Carly. Her jealousy led her to plot the unimaginable. Vivian used herbal drugs to put Carly into a coma and make her appear dead. As family and friends mourned their loss, Carly woke up alive — in a coffin equipped with lights, an oxygen supply, and a two-way radio through which Vivian could torment her. A horrified Carly pleaded for her life while slowly running out of air. Vivian eventually confessed what she’d done to Lawrence, who rushed to save Carly. Lawrence convinced Carly to reconcile with him, and the couple and their son, Nicholas, headed to France to start a new life together. Meanwhile, Vivian was arrested and sent to a sanitarium.

Giving Birth to Kate And Victor’s Son

Determined to get closer to Victor, Vivian pulled off the ultimate coup in 1994. When Victor and Kate, who couldn’t conceive a child naturally, went to a fertility clinic for in vitro, Vivian hatched a plan. She went to the same clinic and pretended she wanted to have a child with Ivan, then stole Kate and Victor’s fertilized egg and had it implanted into her womb! Once pregnant with Victor’s child, Vivian tried to drive a wedge between him and Kate. She gave birth to Kate and Victor’s biological son, Philip, in February 1995.

Becoming Mrs. Victor Kiriakis

While still pregnant with Philip, Vivian tricked Victor into marrying her in January 1995 when she stood in for the bride during his wedding rehearsal, which Kate was unable to make. Sneaky Viv obtained a marriage license, which she duped an unsuspecting Victor into signing, so their “rehearsed” nuptials were actually legit! Kate eventually discovered proof of Vivian’s trickery (the license and a video of the “rehearsal”) and confronted Vivian about marrying Kate’s fiancé. She made it clear that she intended to expose Vivian to Victor. Desperate to stop her, Kate drugged a thermos of coffee that Kate was taking with her on a flight to see Victor and tell him everything. But Kate gave the coffee to the pilot of her plane, it crashed, and Kate was presumed dead. Vivian moved in on Victor until Kate returned to Salem alive in 1996 and exposed her schemes. Victor was stunned to discover that he was legally married to Vivian and demanded a divorce, but Vivian threatened to sue for custody of Philip if he ended their union. The stress took its toll on Victor, who suffered a stroke that left him catatonic. The marriage was ultimately dissolved in 1997.

Attempting To Kill Melanie

To avenge her nephew Lawrence’s death at the hands of Carly, Vivian plotted to kill Carly’s daughter, Melanie. In 2010, she poisoned a comb Melanie planned to wear in her hair on her wedding day to Philip, but was foiled by Victor, who switched it with an untainted one. Undeterred, Vivian lured Melanie to the rooftop terrace of the Kiriakis mansion, where she planned to push her to her death. Carly burst onto the scene with a gun prepared to take out Vivian, but Melanie accidentally ended up the one shot and she fell into a coma. Upon awakening in a hospital bed, Melanie discovered Vivian about to suffocate her and urged her to do it, revealing her tormented childhood. A touched Vivian relented, deciding not to harm Melanie and to instead focus her wrath on Carly.

Burying Maggie Alive

After remarrying Victor in 2010, Vivian was jealous of his growing affection for Maggie, so she orchestrated a plot to eliminate her new rival. Under the guise of planning a celebration of the life of Victor’s late daughter Isabella, Vivian schemed to kidnap and put Maggie in the new sarcophagus that was purchased for Isabella’s remains. Upon uncovering the outrageous plot, Brady forced Vivian into the sarcophagus. However, she was freed by Gus and the twosome managed to entomb Maggie as planned. Maggie remained in the sarcophagus for days, as family and friends worried about her disappearance. Eventually, Victor found and freed Maggie, who was rushed to the hospital. Victor retaliated by demanding a divorce from Vivian and having both her and Gus dropped on an island in lieu of being prosecuted and sent to prison.
