The Young and the Restless: Will Lily’s Lies Doom Her Reunion With Cane?
Lily (Christel Khalil) and Cane (Billy Flynn) seemed to be repairing their relationship on The Young and the Restless, but her lying to him in the October 1 episode about the real reason for her trip to Chicago would seem to indicate that the couple isn’t on such solid ground after all. Could Lily’s actions cause this rekindled romance to fall apart all over again?
Lily Fears That Her Cancer Has Returned
Upon returning from Chicago, Lily confided in Nate (Sean Dominic), hoping to get some medical advice from the trained physician. She informed her cousin that she went out of town for a biopsy after her annual scan revealed an enlarged pelvic lymph node. Nate assured her that if the tests showed it to be malignant, they caught it early, which is good. He also agreed with her decision to keep the possibility that her cancer has returned to herself until she knows more.
When Lily later ran into Cane, and he asked about her trip to Chicago, she lied and said it was just for business. Then, when he noticed she seemed a little off, she dismissed his concerns, claiming she was just tired.
Back in 2009, shortly after they’d married, Lily broke things off with Cane upon learning he’d lied to her and everyone else about being Phillip Chancellor III. But when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, Cane returned to her side to support his wife as she underwent surgery and later, chemotherapy. The couple then renewed their wedding vows and, with Mac acting as their surrogate, welcomed their twins, Mattie and Charlie, whose stem cells were used to treat Lily’s cancer and put her in remission.
Does Lily Really Trust Cane?
Lily and Cane ultimately divorced in 2019, and in 2025, she was stunned when the mysterious businessman Aristotle Dumas was revealed to be Cane. Lily was again upset that he’d lied about his identity, and Cane struggled to win back her trust and her love. He seemed to do so, but Lily keeping him in the dark about the possible return of her cancer doesn’t bode well for the couple.
All those years ago, Cane was nothing but supportive, from Lily’s initial diagnosis, through her treatment, to her remission. The fact that she’s confiding in Nate and not Cane at this time would seem to be a major indication that Cane hasn’t fully earned back Lily’s trust.
Lily has struggled to forgive Cane whenever he’s lied to her, but how will he react when he discovers that she’s been keeping things from him? In the Y&R Fall Preview, Executive Producer Sally McDonald teased that “a secret from Lily’s past may put the brakes on a future together.”
