Shawn on Days of Our Lives — Everything You Need To Know!
The character of Shawn-Douglas Brady has been on Days of Our Lives for decades, so it’s totally understandable if some viewers might need a bit of a refresher on his dramatic history in Salem. Born in 1987, the character was played by a series of child actors until Shawn was aged into a teen played by Jason Cook in October 1999. The role was recast in September 2006 with Brandon Beemer stepping in. He remained until March 2008, and when Shawn returned for the soap’s 50th anniversary in 2015, Cook was back in his shoes. However, Beemer took over again in 2016 and continued to make visits over the years before rejoining the cast permanently again in 2020. After his exit in October 2023, Beemer once again returned to DAYS in November 2024 and continues to appear to this day.
After Hope Williams and Bo Brady welcomed Shawn-Douglas (named after his grandfather, Shawn Brady) in 1987, the family left Salem. After they returned in 1990, Hope was presumed dead and Shawn had an accident that caused him to temporarily lose his hearing. The boy nearly got a new mom when Bo fell for his doctor, Carly Manning, and after that engagement fell through, Shawn did get a new mom when Bo married Billie Reed. Of course, Hope came back from the “dead” and their family was ultimately reunited. And like many people in Salem, Shawn was kidnapped by Stefano DiMera.
As a teenager, Shawn and Philip Kiriakis both found themselves drawn to Belle Black and Chloe Lane. Shawn ended up with Belle, but things took a turn during a school trip to Puerto Rico. After Jan Spears was raped and found herself pregnant, Shawn claimed the baby as his own which naturally ruined things with Belle. After she learned the truth behind his actions, they nearly reconciled, but the universe was seriously against them. When Shawn discovered that Belle’s mother, Marlena Evans, was the Salem Stalker and responsible for the deaths of his family members (she’d been brainwashed and everyone was really alive), Shawn left town which gave Jan the opportunity to abduct him and hold him captive while Belle grew closer to Philip. He managed to escape but crashed his motorcycle and Jan took advantage of his amnesia to insist they were engaged. He recovered his memories but couldn’t stop Philip and Belle from tying the knot. Shawn eventually gave up after Belle gave birth to her daughter, Claire, unaware that the child was actually his.

Shawn tried to move on with Mimi Lockhart and they were married but then he learned that Claire was his daughter. Worse, a mix-up at the hospital led to Belle being inseminated with another of Shawn’s children. Learning Mimi knew about Claire, Shawn ended their marriage and after Belle lost her second baby, he thought she wanted nothing more to do with him. He fell for a former hooker named Willow Stark, which naturally caused friction with Belle and spending time with Claire. When Shawn eventually broke up with her, Willow set fire to the apartment and he had to move in with his parents.
As Shawn and Belle began reconciling, Philip sued for custody of Claire and was awarded temporary guardianship. Knowing Victor Kiriakis paid everyone off for the verdict and fearing Philip would take Claire out of the country, Shawn and Belle took Claire and took off. Philip chased them around the world and when the pursuit nearly ended in their deaths. everyone agreed to come to an arrangement. Shawn asked Belle to marry him but before their November 2007 wedding, she gave in to temptation and slept with Philip. She eventually came clean and after finally reconciling, Shawn and Belle decided to do like his parents and sail around the world to strengthen their bond.
After a brief visit in 2015, Shawn returned to Salem in 2016 having split with Belle after she cheated on him. He tried to reconcile but she moved on with Philip. Working at the Salem PD, Shawn briefly dated co-worker Lani Price, but he and Belle ultimately found their way back to each other and moved to Hong Kong where she got a job. He returned later that year to support his mother as Hope found herself on trial for Stefano’s murder.

Shawn and Belle returned again in 2017 and found themselves busy keeping Claire out of trouble as she became dangerously obsessed with Tripp Dalton. In 2019, the couple attended the Last Blast Reunion in New York where they reconnected with their old friends from high school. Unfortunately, the party was ruined by Jan trying to kidnap Shawn again and blow everyone up with a bomb!
When Claire was released from Bayview in the summer of 2020, Shawn and Belle remained in Salem to make sure she was on the right track. The couple decided to remarry, which almost didn’t happen when Jan abducted the bride and tried to take her place at the ceremony! Thankfully, her plot was foiled and Belle and Shawn were remarried on Christmas Eve. When Belle found herself accused of murder, she discovered Jan had framed her and Shawn helped her trick the psycho into confessing.
Shawn thought he was sleeping with his wife only to discover that the devil was up to his old tricks and had disguised Jan as Belle! Worse, Jan later revealed she was pregnant with Shawn’s baby! This pushed Belle into the arms of EJ DiMera, and Shawn felt obligated to be a father to his child. But when Jan tried to flee Salem with Shawn and the baby, Belle stopped her and she fell into the water and disappeared. After Sami told Shawn about Belle and EJ, the couple had a long-overdue talk about their relationship. On the plus side, it turned out Shawn wasn’t the father of Jan’s baby after all!

Now back together, Shawn supported Belle when Marlena died, and again when it was revealed that she was alive and being held captive by Megan Hathaway… who had also been keeping Bo alive in suspended animation! But the revived Bo had been brainwashed and when Shawn saw him about to kill Hope, he shot his father, which put him back into a coma. Later learning that his father had actually come to his senses at the last minute, Shawn was overwhelmed with guilt which led him to start drinking heavily. He pushed Belle away every time she tried to help, and then fell into bed with Talia Hunter. Realizing he’d hit rock bottom, Shawn finally agreed to go to rehab, choosing a location near the hospital where his father was.
Shawn returned home in December 2024 to attend the funeral of his grandfather, Doug Williams. He and Belle also both agreed that while they still loved each other, their marriage was dead and buried, and signed divorce papers. He also returned to work at the Salem PD and offered to be JJ Deveraux’s partner if he joined the force as well.
As 2025 began, Shawn found himself working with Belle as she took over as district attorney and they were able to keep things civil. He was stunned when Jada Hunter was replaced as commissioner with Rafe and supported her as she struggled to deal with losing her job and her fiancé. As she opened up about Rafe seeming like a different person, Shawn admitted he didn’t recognize Belle, who had gotten involved with EJ again. Although Jada backed off of their first close moment, she eventually gave in and they slept together!
