Rena Sofer Is Staying On General Hospital As Lois Despite Recent Move
Rena Sofer’s recent announcement that she and her husband, Sanford Bookstaver, are moving to New York has led to multiple websites reporting that the actress is leaving General Hospital, where she has been on recurring status as Lois Cerullo since her return to her Daytime Emmy-winning role in the fall of 2023. But Soap Opera Digest can confirm that this is not the case.
Home Away From Home
Like several other members of the GH cast who are not based in Los Angeles, Sofer is planning to commute from New York to California to continue appearing as Lois. Digest has learned that the actress already has confirmed dates to tape in L.A. within the next month.
Sofer made her Port Charles debut in 1993 and played Lois until 1996, the year after she took home the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress and a Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Younger Lead Actress for her portrayal of Brooklyn-born, impeccably manicured music manager Lois. Before returning to GH for her current stint, she appeared on Bold and Beautiful as Quinn Fuller from 2013-22.
One of Sofer’s co-stars, Kirsten Storms (Maxie), recently revealed that she is moving to Nashville, TN, and after a break from the show to get settled, she will be commuting to the GH set. Rick Hearst (Ric) regularly flies to work at GH from his home in New Jersey. Notes a source close to Sofer, “This is no different.”
In the current storyline, Lois has found herself on the receiving end of daughter Brook Lynn’s ire after it came out in May that instead of placing a teenaged Brook Lynn’s child by Dante with a private adoption agency, she gave the baby boy to be raised by close family friends. That child grew up to be Gio Palmieri, and the reveal of his true identity has sent Gio, Brook Lynn and Dante into an emotional tailspin.
