Reminiscing With Martha Byrne
1: “I loved the drugging story with Orlena. I got to work with Nick Coster (ex-Eduardo Grimaldi), Paolo Seganti; ex-Damian Grimaldi) and Claire Bloom (ex-Orlena), and we were kind of our own little family. It was a great, challenging story.”
2: “I loved the Diego story. To me, that murder was one of the best, and that whole arc was fun to play. Anytime Lily gets to do something different and go on an adventure, I’m happy.”
3. “Of course when Rose came to town that was one of my favorite stories. It was so challenging. I was scared because it was something I’d never done before and I didn’t want to fail. I wanted it to be successful. It did turn out well. Chris (Goutman, executive producer) had a goal in mind for that character; he wanted Rose to be a part of the canvas on the show and not just some trick. Also, when they found out who these two women (Lily and Rose) were, with Lisa Brown (ex-Iva Snyder) coming back and the reveal of who Rose was and what happened. I loved how that came together.”
4: “The whole Holden/Lily/Dusty love story is a favorite because it was the beginning of a friendship with Jon (Hensley, Holden) and Brian Bloom (ex-Dusty) that is still maintained to this day. AS THE WORLD TURNS never had a hot teen story until that point and Doug Marland (ATWT’s late head writer) gave us the reins to have fun with it and trusted us enough to tell that story. It still holds to this day, which is a miracle. Twenty years later and Holden and Lily are still having problems and still having an interesting story. We’ve survived many chopping block days and writers and producers that didn’t quite get it. We’re survivors.”
5: “Coming back to the show with Damian was a great, great twist. That was the last thing that Doug and I spoke about before he died, was Damian coming on and how it was going to be great for Holden and Lily’s relationship. And I loved singing on the show and being in Italy. Where we did the remote was Doug Marland’s favorite place in the world. It’s about the friendships and the relationships that I’ve developed over the years and the fact that Paolo is still in my life as a friend and Doug brought him into my life. Those are the moments that stick out in my mind.”
