Quickie Q&A With Bradley Cole

Comments

Times are turbulent for GL’s Jeffrey who, in a matter of weeks, spilled Ava’s big paternity secret (on her wedding day!), broke up, then reconciled with his main squeeze, Reva, and welcomed the birth of his grandchild. This week, the highs and lows continue as he’s forced to make a heartbreaking decision regarding Ava’s health (check out the 8/5 issue, which is on sale this week, for more) and begins wedding plans with Reva. Yep, it’s back on! Digest caught up with portrayer Bradley Cole to get the scoop on, well, everything.

Soap Opera Digest: So, let’s talk “Jeffeva.” They had a break and now they’re back together. What’s Jeffrey’s take on all the drama?

Bradley Cole: Jeffrey’s madly in love with Reva, but they have all this stuff going on, and then Reva’s preoccupation with the movie of her life and it’s a big sort of barrier between them. He’s very much devoted to Reva.
Digest: They’re really getting married this time?

Cole: There are two or three or four different moments where they say that and each time there seems to be something else in their lives that’s complicating things. Reva has the movie, initially, so that throws a monkey wrench into things, and then Jeffrey has all this going on now with Ava. He’s also trying to construct a case against Grady. As a matter of fact, this stimulates Jeffrey to actually say, “Let’s do it!” because he just wants to try and forget about everything and he doesn’t want to hold up things.

Digest: Why does Jeffrey feel it’s necessary to ask Hawk for Reva’s hand in marriage (which he does this week)?

Cole: Jeffrey shows up because he knows that Hawk has visions of things being like they used to be, and he believes in Josh and Reva. So, Jeffrey doesn’t dislike Hawk, but he realizes that Hawk is trying to put a wedge into things.

Digest: What happens?

Cole: He arrives at Hawk’s door with a bottle of the finest bourbon. They sort of hash things out man-to-man and Jeffrey explains to him and asks him properly for his daughter’s hand in marriage. Of course, he ends up getting the door slammed in his face [laughs], but then he brings out the secret weapon, which is the bottle of bourbon.

Digest: Viewers are seeing a new, softer side of Jeffrey, no?

Cole: All this stuff’s catching up with Jeffrey. He’s always been an independent person and he’s always been on the margins of Springfield society and has never really had to invest his emotions like he’s doing now. He’s got a [premature] grandson…. So, he’s completely out of sorts. He doesn’t know how to deal with this and Jeffrey’s always someone who, his whole life, has been taught and trained how to deal with things because he’s never really invested his emotions. Now, he has family, in a sense. Reva, he considers his family. He’s got Olivia and Ava and now he has a grandson. So, it’s very, very confusing and a disturbing time for him.

Digest: Jeffrey’s dealing with emotions and he’s still diligently working on that Grady case. Is there a meltdown in his future?

Cole: It’s festering in him and he’s pouring it all into his work and he’s determined now, at all costs, to nail Grady and then he wants to go after Alan. He’s putting all of his feelings and laying that on to Tammy’s death, which he wants to vindicate for both Ava and Cassie.

Digest: I smell trouble ahead!

Cole: That’s obviously something that’s going to cause friction with other people … and Reva!
