Alan Dysert, who portrayed the devious Sean Cudahy on All My Children from 1979 to 1981 and again from 1988 to 1990, passed away on October 23, 2026 at the age of 75. The sad news was shared on Facebook via his wife, Michele.

Remembering Alan Dysert

“My heart is broken,” Michele wrote of her late husband. “From his humble beginnings as a farm boy in Illinois, he went on to become an actor, musician, writer, filmmaker, producer, and beloved acting teacher. Many knew him from his years on All My Children, while thousands of others knew him as the teacher and mentor who encouraged them to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams. He was a life changer!!”

In his 2023 autobiography, Lights, Camera, Action, Dysert revealed that he had been diagnosed 12 years prior with a “rare, aggressive and incurable cancer.”

In her tribute, Michelle noted, “Alan faced more than his share of health challenges over the years, yet he continued to approach life with determination, humor, and gratitude. He fought hard for the life he loved, and I was honored to stand beside him through it all.”

On All My Children, Dysert’s Sean Cudahy was the black sheep brother of All-American football star Tom Cudahy, played by Richard Shoberg. In his early years in Pine Valley, con man Sean got a job working for Palmer Cortlandt (James Mitchell), seduced the very married Devon McFadden (Tricia Pursley) and then took up with Palmer’s ex-wife, Daisy Cortlandt (Gillian Spencer), who was, at the time, going by the name Monique Jonvil.

Meanwhile, Sean was helping Palmer plot to break up romance of Palmer and Daisy’s daughter, Nina (Taylor Miller), and Cliff Warner (Peter Bergman). Sean’s partner in this mission was Sybil Thorne (Linda Gibboney), who Sean had dated and who’d had a one-night stand with Cliff. Sybil got cold feet, though, and Sean went to her house with a gun to try to force her to do his bidding. He ended up accidentally shooting her. Sybil died, and Cliff went on trial for the murder.

In the end, Monique/Daisy exposed the truth and Sean went to jail.

Dysert returned to the role in 1988 when Sean was released from prison. Though he did his best to stay on the straight and narrow, he saw dollar signs when he met heiress Cecily Davidson (Rosa Langschwadt) and proposed to her to get his hands on her trust fund. But Cecily’s mother, Bitsy (Ann Flood) had the hots for him, too, and caught them in a compromising position on her wedding day!

Cecily left Sean at the altar, and Palmer eventually offered him a job out of town.

Dysert and his wife shared two sons, Cody and Cooper, and several grandchildren.

In her Facebook message, Michele wrote that her husband “wanted his children, grandchildren, family, and friends to celebrate his life rather than mourn his passing. That was Alan. He understood that life was an adventure, that tomorrow was never guaranteed, and that the greatest treasures weren’t things, but the people and experiences that made life meaningful.”

Soap Opera Digest sends its deepest condolences to Dysert’s family and loved ones.
