Is General Hospital Setting Nina Up as Jack Brennan’s Killer?

Comments

Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) made a very public threat against Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna) on Wednesday’s episode of General Hospital.  In light of the  reports that Chris McKenna is leaving the soap, it’s hard not to wonder whether the scene could eventually be significant to Jack’s fate.

General Hospital hasn’t confirmed McKenna’s exit or Jack’s fate. But the circumstances surrounding Nina’s threat were notable: She didn’t just threaten Jack in private. Several established Port Charles residents — including two people who openly despise her, Carly (Laura Wright) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) — witnessed the confrontation.

And if Jack does meet a deadly end, Nina’s words could suddenly carry a lot more weight.

Nina Has a Motive — and Plenty of Witnesses

Jack has already given Nina a reason to turn against him by threatening Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) — and Nina has repeatedly shown exactly how seriously she takes threats against her daughter. Just recently, she pushed wheelchair-bound Drew into the Quartermaine lake when she believed he was on the verge of exposing Willow’s litany of crimes against him.

Whatever else that incident said about Nina, it established that she is capable of resorting to violence when she believes protecting Willow requires it. Now, Jack has put himself on the other side of that equation.

The difference between Drew and Jack, however, is that Nina has actual feelings for Jack. Which makes the question of what she might do if she decides he is a genuine threat to Willow and that she needs to take action to stop him considerably more complicated — and thus makes Nina a juicier choice of culprit.

What may be most significant about Wednesday’s confrontation is not the threat that Nina leveled— “You just get Willow what she needs, Brennan, or the only person who’s going to be destroyed is you!” — but who heard it. If Jack does die — and especially if foul play proves to be involved — then the public nature of Nina’s outburst would surely be significant.

After all, not only did her enemies Carly and Drew hear it, but so did several far more neutral parties: upstanding doctor Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson), former police commissioner Jordan (Tanisha Harper) and WSB agent-turned-G.H. surgeon Tristan (Dean Geyer), not to mention a random assortment of diners who witnessed the spectacle at the Metro Court Gardens.

The ability of such a wide swath of characters to all give the same account to the PCPD should a murder investigation get underway makes Nina a very obvious suspect. It also makes her a remarkably useful patsy if someone else is responsible for Jack’s demise.

Today’s episode all but guaranteed that, if Jack meets a deadly end, Nina will be the person everyone suspects first. What remains to be seen is whether GH is giving viewers a red herring — or a killer standing in plain sight.
