Is Britt Leaving General Hospital? Kelly Thiebaud Explains Britt’s Desperate Exit Plan (Exclusive)

Comments

On General Hospital, Britt is making moves to leave Port Charles for what she believes is the greater good. Actress Kelly Thiebaud (Britt) chatted with Soap Opera Digest about why her troubled character has booked a one-way ticket out of town even if doing so would likely result in her death from Huntington’s disease.

Britt’s Last Stand?

With Jason (Steve Burton) in WSB custody for shooting Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) and Cullum determined to uncover the identity of the real shooter, Rocco (Finn Carr), Britt is feeling both isolated and scared — not only for herself, but for the people she loves. “It just feels to her like everything is closing in on her,” explains Thiebaud. “Cullum is getting too close to figuring out it’s Rocco, and if anything happened to Rocco, I definitely think she would blame herself. She would totally feel like it’s her fault.”

Not only that, notes Thiebaud, “But everyone else would blame her, too! She’s just getting pooh-poohed on constantly,” most recently by Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), who in the May 21 episode made it quite clear that he holds Britt responsible for his son firing a bullet into the back of a WSB agent.

“People don’t really give Britt the benefit of the doubt and she deals with a lot of hate,” Thiebaud says. “Sure, some of it’s warranted, but I don’t think people really understand her.” And as the actress sees it, Britt’s care for Rocco is genuine. “She wants to do whatever she can to protect him and get him out of this situation,” she insists.

While skipping town would perhaps throw Cullum off Rocco’s scent — not to mention prevent her from finishing the prototype Cullum and Sidwell (Carlo Rota) need to enact the next stage of their evil plan — it would come at a huge cost to Britt’s own well-being, given that Cullum is supplying her with the medication that keeps her Huntington’s at bay. And that’s a price she appears willing to pay.

As for why her GH alter ego is willing to go without her meds and let the deadly disease progress, Thiebaud muses, “I think at this point, she is just like, ‘You know what? This isn’t worth it anymore, I’m just going to die of Huntington’s.’ It’s not in a ‘woe is me’ type of way, I just think she’s feeling really helpless and really alone. She does have people that she loves, but I don’t think she really feels like she has anyone in town that she can count on. So it’s easy to feel like, ‘It’s better for me to just go away because I’m the problem here.'”

What won’t be as easy is making a clean getaway. Expect some curveballs to be thrown at Britt as she attempts to make her Port Charles exit. Teases Thiebaud, “She can’t catch a break, that’s for sure.” Adds the actress, “I would like to see her life maybe not be so stressful and chaotic and life-or-death. I’d like to see her have a little bit of ease and fun — and maybe even some love soon!”
