INTERVIEW

ICYMI: GENERAL HOSPITAL’S KRISTINA WAGNER (FELICIA) OFFERS INSIGHT INTO HER ALTER EGO

What are your favorite qualities of Felicia’s? “I like that she never gives up. I love that she pursues things to the bitter end, no matter what the consequence. She’s a generally good-natured person and she really shoots for the bright side and I think, with her years of wisdom, she knows how to manipulate all of the things she’s learned in her life because she’s had so many dramas and tragedies. I like that she learns from her mistakes and moves forward.”

What has been the best time in her life? “That feels like you are asking, ‘What was your favorite storyline?’ That has always been a tough question for me because I’ve loved all the phases and I’ve loved all of her life. But I think the best time for her would be today, because she’s more grounded and she can make the choice to pursue happiness. She has the tools and she’s very content in her marriage to Mac and being present for Maxie and the grandchildren. She’s solid and stable. So, today is probably her most at-peace, happiest time.”

What was the hardest time in her life? “Maxie’s heart transplant would be one, and the second would be Georgie’s death. Being a mother is one of the most important aspects of her life, and so the hardest times were when her children were struggling, and the worst time in her life would be when Georgie died. I know from personal experience what that is like [having lost son Harrison in 2022]. That is very critical and would change you, and make you into a different character, actually.”

Who do you think Felicia trusts the most? “I think her daughter, Maxie. Maxie trusts her and confides in her about the most brutal decisions that she has to make and I think, likewise, Felicia feels she can do the same with Maxie.”

Do you have a favorite home that Felicia has lived in? “Oh, the brownstone. I liked the idea that they had us as a community in the brownstone. We had Bobbie and Tony downstairs, or Tony and Tania downstairs, and I think it gave a sense of geography on the show, because you kind of knew where they were — they were down by the docks, they were close to Kelly’s Diner and frequented that.”

What Felicia storyline would be most fun for you to do all over again? “Pick a sexy one, and if we could do it all over again, we could make it even dirtier because now we have the permission to do so [laughs]!”

How do you imagine Felicia spends her downtime? “Oh, she’s writing a book. The Part-Time Princess, that’s the title of her book, and it’s about her adventures with Frisco. She’s writing it in secret. Mac doesn’t know.”

We know that Lucy considers Felicia to be her very best friend, but who does Felicia consider to be her best friend? “Well, it probably wouldn’t be Lucy! Her best friend is probably Anna. That’s the friendship we always come back to. They have a nice relationship and a good trust with each other and a real comfort with each other. They don’t have a competition with each other. They more just sort of share their experiences and try to get sound advice from each other.”

Felicia has been on many capers over the years. Who is her favorite adventure buddy? “Anna. She knows if she’s going to engage with Lucy, there’s gonna be trouble, there are going to be things that are beyond her control, and she won’t be able to do anything about it because she’s Lucy! And Lucy will rat her out in a second to save herself!”

Who do you think Felicia most looks up to“Right now, it’s Stella. Stella is her mentor as she pursues this new career as a patient advocate. Stella is giving her some really good advice, showing her some of the reality of what goes on at General Hospital, and it’s kind of an awakening for her.”

What career of Felicia’s do you think has suited her best? “I think for each phase of her life, she was in the right place. Each career was working for her. When I started on the show, Felicia was a student at Port Charles University and working at Kelly’s Diner with Ruby. That was appropriate and suited her at the time. Right now she’s in a cool phrase of her journey with being a patient advocate, where she’s using wisdom she didn’t have before, but it’s not a bad thing to be young and inexperienced. Those careers can be fine at that time and as we move along in our lives, hopefully we shift and change with what we’re learning and try to be of service to people. I think that’s Felicia’s thinking.”

Who would Felicia least want to run into in a dark alley? “Of course I’m gonna say Ryan! He would still be in her nightmares, absolutely. He shaped the way she thinks about fear.”

Which of Felicia’s wedding albums do you think she’d be most inclined to grab off the shelf? “Well, the most decadent and the prettiest one was the first Frisco and Felicia wedding. That was pretty extravagant and was probably the biggest-budgeted, too, and drew a lot of attention. But that wouldn’t be Felicia’s answer. Her answer would be, ‘The one with Mac!’ The one where they got it done and completed it and are living happily ever after.”

What do you think is the key to Felicia’s happy marriage to Mac? “They respect each other. They’ve had their own careers and they respect each other’s careers. They also spend a lot of time together. They do things together, a lot of fun events, and in the middle of the day, he’ll leave work and meet her for lunch or a drink or something. They always include each other and the only times problems happen between them are when they keep secrets from each other.”

What story would you like to see explored for Felicia in the future? “I would really like to see them revisit what happened with her abandoning her children for Frisco, because we don’t really know what that was about. I’d love to see them give a full account as to why she did that and where she was. I would love it to be a pretty viable excuse because she’s not a flake and she is a good mother and it’s really out of character for that soap opera, ‘scripted in, scripted out’ thing [to have occurred] just because Kristina had a time in her personal life where she had to leave the show, you know? I’d love for it to be explained more fully and give it some credibility and accountability for Felicia. I think it’s important for the character; it’s a hole in her history that really needs to have some light shined on it. I hope someday, they’ll say, ‘Oh, it’s time to visit that story!’ ”

Me vs. Her

■ Who is better at keeping secrets, you or Felicia? “Me!”

Would you wear Felicia’s wardrobe? “Half of it. There are a lot of things that are not so comfortable, and in some situations I would dress differently from how she does.”

She probably has more space in her closet devoted to ball gowns than you do. “Yeah. And weddings [laughs].”

Who gives better advice, you or Felicia? “Hmm. I think I’m pretty good at it. It’s a tie, I think. We’ve both gone through a lot and we both have some things to share with other people where we can be of service to other people. I feel pretty confident that if someone wants to talk to me about something that I’m available for that. I’ve done a lot of work on myself because I needed to, because I’ve had a lot of hard times, and we don’t know that Felicia has been in therapy or done a lot of work like I have, but she seeks the truth and I’m sure, behind the scenes, she reads a lot of books!”

How would you fare as a private investigator compared to Felicia? “Oh, horrible. I don’t want to see any body parts or blood or flesh. No, thank you!”

How do you think you would do as a patient advocate? “Horrible. I don’t want to be anywhere near a hospital. I admire hospital workers on every level, but I just couldn’t do it.”

Who is more impulsive, you or Felicia? “Oh, Felicia, of course!”

Who’s better in a crisis, you or Felicia? “Me, absolutely.”

Who is more forgiving, you or Felicia? “Me.”

Who has a better sense of humor? “I’m gonna say me. It may not read for other people, but I have a mind that races with humor first and then drama later.”
