How To Watch Thursday’s Soaps That Were Interrupted
Dramatic Pause: Billy’s (Jason Thompson) launch of his new business and Hope’s (Annika Noelle) reaction to tragic news were interrupted.
Daytime soaps being preempted for breaking news coverage is, unfortunately, a fact of life and has been for many years. On May 8, the new Pope, Leo XIV, was announced, and that news interrupted regular programming around the globe, including the CBS soaps.
Pardon The Interruption
Now that Days of Our Lives streams on Peacock, fans no longer have to worry about missing a single episode because of preemptions. And ABC resumed its regularly scheduled programming in time for General Hospital to air. But CBS didn’t return to the regular daytime lineup until a little after 2 p.m., with Beyond the Gates already in progress, meaning that East Coast viewers missed out on Young and Restless and Bold and Beautiful entirely.
CBS has announced that Thursday’s episode of B&B was preempted nationally, meaning that the Thursday episode will now air on Friday, May 9, and all subsequent episodes will be bumped a day moving forward. On the plus side, this means that the drama will pick up on Friday right where it left off on Wednesday, so fans don’t need to worry about missing anything. On the other hand, it also means waiting until the next day to find out how Hope reacts to learning that Liam is dying.
For any viewers living in a time zone where B&B was not preempted by news coverage of the new Pope, they may feel a sense of deja vu as an encore of the Aug. 1, 2022, episode will air in those markets instead. (That’s the one where Steffy, believing that Finn was dead after he took a bullet shielding her from vengeful Sheila, had an emotional reunion with her very-much-alive husband in Monaco.)
Unfortunately for fans of Y&R, the Thursday episode will air in the other time zones, so viewers on the East Coast who were unable to watch because of the interruption will need to stream the soap online at CBS.com or Paramount+ in the evening after 8 p.m. ET. That way, they can see Victor continuing his campaign against the Abbotts, Devon finding himself in a tight spot with his family, and Damian receiving a warning that he may not heed.
