Who Is Gloria on General Hospital?

Gloria Cerullo hasn’t been on General Hospital in many years, so some fans might be curious about Lois’ mom. The character made sporadic appearances in the mid-90s on the soap, and was played by Ellen Travolta, who returned in November 2023 to reprise the role in time for the Quartermaine Thanksgiving celebration. She then visited again in May 2024 and March 2025.

Gloria first came to Port Charles with her husband, Carmine Cerullo, to check on their daughter, Lois Cerullo. She was not thrilled to find Lois dating another musician, as Ned Quartermaine was also performing as Eddie Maine. So Ned made up a story about his family to charm Lois’ mom and win her over. Gloria and Lois sparred over the wedding plans including the dress and the venue (Gloria wanted a big family ceremony with a priest).

Months later, after not hearing anything from Lois, Gloria returned to check on her. Although upset that she’d given Ned another chance (after finding out he’d also been married to Katherine Bell at the same time!), when Lois’ ex-boyfriend, Danny, showed up to win her back, Gloria managed to get rid of the guy.

After Ned and Lois were remarried, Gloria learned she was going to become a grandmother. When Lois had cramps, Gloria rushed her daughter to the hospital, but it was only false labor and it wasn’t time to welcome Brook Lynn Quartermaine to the world quite yet.

In November 2023, Lois returned to Port Charles to check on Ned, who was suffering amnesia and calling himself Eddie Maine again. She invited her mother to join the family for Thanksgiving and Gloria was delighted to meet the rest of the family but seemed distracted and worried. When Lois asked her about it, Gloria admitted she’d gotten into a fight with a woman at bingo who was connected to the Russian mob. Yuri overheard and offered to help, so he made a call and Peter Petrov arrived at the mansion where they eventually were able to smooth things over and Gloria agreed to avoid bingo night at his wife’s church.

Gloria returned in May 2024 with her husband, Carmine, to attend Brook Lynn’s wedding to Harrison Chase. She caught up with Sonny and they insisted Sonny attend their Fourth of July party. Gloria was also excited to be introduced to Blaze as she was a big fan. Meeting Dex Heller, she immediately wanted to set him up with Lois’ cousin. 

In March 2025, Gloria showed up at the Quartermaines in time to break the tension between Brook Lynn and Lois who were discussing the baby Brook Lynn gave up as a teenager. Gloria claimed she was the one who told Lois to speak to Martin Grey and get an attorney’s council, and Brook Lynn realized she had been involved back then. Once they were alone, Lois insisted that they needed to tell Brook Lynn that Gio Palmieri is her son, but Gloria argued that it would only cause everyone more pain if the truth was revealed.
