Getting To Know: Karla Mosley (Christina, GL)

Comments

Daytime newcomer Karla Mosley makes her GL debut on October 22 when her alter ego, Christina, is introduced to Remy. Digest caught up with Mosley to get the storyline scoop and learn a little more about Springfield’s newest addition.Soap Opera Digest: Welcome to GUIDING LIGHT!

Karla Mosley: Thank you! It was a surprising opportunity and I’m really enjoying it so far.

Digest: This is your first foray into daytime, but you’ve appeared on GOSSIP GIRL and in Burn After Reading. What else have you worked on?

Mosley: I went to school for acting, I went to NYU. Right before I was going into my senior year, I auditioned for a children’s show. It’s called HI-5, which is still on Discovery Kids every morning. It filmed in Sydney, Australia, so I spent the next four years doing that show. It wasn’t possible to do a lot of long-term projects here because I was constantly traveling, so it’s definitely been a collage of things. There’s the Yaz birth control commercial and print ad. Recently, I’ve been on Reach toothbrush commercials as well.

Digest: You’re a musician as well?

Mosley: I started out singing jazz when I was little, and musical theater. I have a couple gigs coming up singing with my friend’s big band. It comes in waves for me, so we’ll see where that goes. It’s mostly jazz and R&B.

Digest: Are you a soap fan?

Mosley: It’s a little bit of a new ball game for me. My mother let me in on the fact that she watched GUIDING LIGHT growing up with her mom, so she is over the moon.

Digest: Tell us a little about Christina.

Mosley: I really like Christina a lot. She’s very smart and very ambitious. Where she lacks, I think, is just knowing how to open her heart. She’s had to fight and work hard for her education. She lives on Fifth Street, which in Springfield is like the other side of the tracks.

Digest: How does she meet Remy?

Mosley: They meet taking the MCAT. She’s extremely passionate about [becoming a doctor]. It’s a different experience for her to meet someone from the wealthier part of town who is fun and kind. She’s just curious about him. He’s just so different from her. She was up since 5 in the morning, prepping and running and taking gingko [laughs], and he runs in late and it’s just a totally different energy. I think that scares her a little bit, but it’s also very intriguing.

Digest: How was your first day on set?

Mosley: Lawrence [Saint Victor, Remy] was always checking in, like, ‘How ya doing? Are you okay?’ It was wonderful because people from the production office were down there and introduced me to everyone. I really appreciated that. They’ve been nothing but welcoming.

Digest: How long will you and Christina be sticking around?

Mosley: I don’t know. It seems like it will be a recurring role for some time and I’m really excited about it. I know that they’re definitely looking ahead!
