General Hospital’s Nazneen Contractor Says Justine Is Seeing ‘A Different Side’ of Sonny
A visit to the General Hospital set in 2024 led to Nazneen Contractor being offered a short-term role on the soap — one that has now turned into much more. At the time, the actress — who is known for roles on 24 and Rules of Engagement — had simply been excited to play tour guide for her mother, who is a big fan of the show, where Contractor’s husband, Carlo Rota, had recently begun playing Jenz Sidwell. But then GH’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, offered the actress the role of lawyer Justine Turner, which was originally slated only to last for a few episodes — the courtroom scenes last November, where ADA Turner prosecuted Ava for allegedly pushing Kristina out a window, causing her to lose her unborn child.
Staying Power
In early 2025, Contractor was asked back to the show, and since then, she’s becoming a growing presence in the Port Charles landscape as ADA Turner probes into crime in Port Charles. The actress couldn’t be happier to see how her role has developed. “Every month of 2025, I’ve been back on that show, prosecuting someone, investigating someone, and now I’ve become the acting district attorney, which is just amazing,” she told TV Insider. “It’s been a thrill to see how they’ve allowed this character to progress and really get into other people’s storylines and now become a part of Port Charles. I pinch myself like, ‘How did this happen? This is great.’ ”
Justine’s determination to bring down local mob boss Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) has wavered recently as she’s come to learn that he’s not the hardened criminal she believed him to be. And, in fact, recent scenes between the two have shown a playful spark that has some fans predicting that a romantic entanglement is imminent.
‘Working with Maurice is great,” Contractor declared. “He is very present, and I don’t really know what he’s going to do, so it really forces me to be extremely open and very in the moment. I love that. And they certainly seem to be tying our storylines together. I like the sort of cat-and-mouse aspect of it. I like the fact that Justine is determined to take him down, but obviously, in that process, she’s seeing a different side of him. It’s fun for Justine to discover that he’s not entirely what he appears to be to her, and how she navigates the responsibility of doing her job with seeing this other side of him.”
For the fans still feeling protective of Sonny and doubting Justine’s intentions, Contractor urges them to stay tuned. “There’s a lot more to Turner than meets the eye,” she teased. “Give her a chance.”
