INTERVIEW

General Hospital’s Katelyn MacMullen on Willow’s ‘Race Against the Clock’ to Silence Drew (Excl)

Comments

On General Hospital, Willow’s luck appears to be running out: She’s only got a month’s supply of paralytic left, which means that Drew (Cameron Mathison) may soon be able to expose her for drugging him and keeping him in a locked-in state. Now, Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna) has offered her a way out, in the form of proof of Drew’s illegal activities that she can use to blackmail her husband into silence — but that solution is far from a slam-dunk. Actress Katelyn MacMullen spoke to Soap Opera Digest about Willow’s latest dilemma, saying, “She is definitely racing against the clock.”

Willow’s Desperate Bid to Neutralize Drew

For months now, Willow has been playing a very dangerous game, keeping Drew wheelchair-bound and (mostly) unable to communicate while she assumed his duties in Congress. She’s managed to stay (mostly) in control, but now, “There are so many factors working against her,” MacMullen notes. “But the biggest thing is that Sidwell [Carlo Rota], at this point, is a fugitive. He’s been supplying her with the paralytic, and now that she’s lost her source, she’s running out of it.”

Willow is all too aware of how big a problem that is, given that she narrowly blocked him from calling 911 the last time his meds nearly wore off. “She knows that when he misses a dose, he starts to regain his mobility, so she knows he’s going to be able to move soon,” MacMullen nods. “The clock is ticking and she needs this evidence against Drew, like, yesterday!”

However, the dirt that Brennan claims to have on Drew is in the safe in his office at WSB headquarters — and given that he’s currently stuck in a bed at Turning Woods, he’s in no position to retrieve it. So he impresses upon Willow and Nina (Cynthia Watros) that if they want to stop Drew from blowing the whistle on them, they’ve got to help him get back on his feet.

Has it occurred to Willow that the crafty WSB agent may be playing them? “I do think that’s on her mind,” MacMullen offers. “I don’t know if she trusts many people at this point or takes very many people at their word. But she wants to believe him, because if he’s telling the truth, it would be the biggest relief in the world to her. That evidence is exactly what she needs to get out of this situation.”

And you know what they say about desperate times calling for desperate measures. “In Willow’s mind, what choice does she have?” MacMullen says. “She’s got to say yes to him, because if he is being honest and he does have something against Drew in that safe, then this could finally all be over.”

But could getting out of the mess she’s in really be that easy? Teases the GH star, “Let’s just say the writers aren’t out of surprises. There’s more fun stuff coming up!”
