General Hospital’s Blythe Howard Dishes Debut as ‘Spicy’ Monet
On Blythe Howard’s second episode of General Hospital, her new character, Monet Miller, was revealed to be more than just the hard-driving new attorney on Miller & Davis’ payroll. She’s also the younger, and very much estranged, sister of Jordan Ashford (Tanisha Harper).
Blythe Howard on Bringing Monet to Life
The actress opened up about her soap opera debut and all things Monet in a new interview with TV Insider, saying that she was drawn to the role of Monet when she first read the character description that went out in the casting call. “I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, this is giving Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction,” she recalled. “It was just a really fun, spicy role and I couldn’t pass it up.”
After nailing her audition, the role was hers — and her GH castmates quickly made her feel at home. Describing her new colleagues as “so welcoming and kind and helpful,” she beamed, “I just feel seen as a human being, as a person and as an actor, being put in this role.”
Though Monet just showed up in Port Charles this week, she’s already proven to be a force to be reckoned with, going toe to toe with the inimitable Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) and dissing big sister Jordan’s appearance (she’s got severe facial scarring from a car accident). Said Howard, “I think Monet is just here to keep everybody on their toes. I love that she’s strong and doesn’t take no for an answer. She goes after what she wants, and she’s not afraid to maybe step on some toes… I think she knows exactly what she’s up to, but everybody else doesn’t.”
Howard — a real-life cancer survivor who pivoted to acting from a planned career as a journalist after winning a contest to DJ on MTV’s Total Request Live — shared that when it comes to the prickly dynamic between Monet and Jordan, she’s learning more about why the pair is at odds with each new script she receives. “Finding out how we got to where we are is going to be fun for the audience,” she predicted.
“Working with Tanisha, ” she added, “we’re finding it, and we’re developing this bond together. She’s so sweet, and it’s been really fun.”
