What Happened to Valentin on General Hospital

Valentin Cassadine has become quite the complicated character on General Hospital since his debut. James Patrick Stuart, best known to soap fans as Will Cortlandt on All My Children, joined the cast of GH in July 2016. In the years that followed, the Cassadine seemed to turn over a new leaf… but the revelation that he was heading Pikeman seemed to paint the character into a corner, and he disappeared in July 2024! However, Valentin resurfaced briefly in December 2024 and again in March 2025 before making more regular appearances later in the year, so it’s clear his story is far from over.

Helena Cassadine considered Valentin to be the most dangerous of the family and was terrified of Mikkos Cassadine’s son. A fisherman on Cassadine Island named Theo was soon revealed to be Valentin. He forced Nikolas Cassadine to sign over the Cassadine family fortune, but when he attempted to shoot Ava Jerome, Nik attacked and was shot and presumed dead. Valentin later also shot Kevin Collins when he was trying to protect Laura Spencer.

Valentin finally showed up in Port Charles where he seduced Nina Reeves, then warned Claudette that she’d taken something that belonged to him. He revealed himself to the Spencers at Wyndemere on Halloween, announcing that he now owned the castle and was hoping to be able to redeem himself.

While it was revealed that Charlotte was Valentin’s daughter, it wasn’t until a bit later that Lulu Spencer learned that she was the little girl’s mother, not Claudette. Helena had used Valentin’s stolen sperm to inseminate Lulu’s stolen egg — and when he found out, he stole that embryo and had it implanted into surrogate Claudette. This launched a custody battle between Lulu and Valentin where he quickly married Nina in order to give Charlotte a proper family. Lulu was furious when the judge awarded custody of the girl to Valentin and Nina and vowed to continue fighting for her child.

Anna Devane recalled fragments of her past with Valentin from the WSB, and he told her that her rejection of his romantic advances was what inspired him to change his life. But when Anna became seriously ill, he remained by her side, demonstrating that his old feelings had not died. Anna’s continued investigation into their shared past caused friction in his marriage as Nina became jealous of the Brit.

Eventually, it was revealed that the Anna who kept trying to seduce Valentin away from Nina was actually her twin sister, Alex, but the damage had already been done. Valentin sang to Nina at the Nurses Ball, but it was later taking a bullet for her during a hostage situation that brought them back together again. Unfortunately, due to Valentin’s involvement with the Chimera virus, the WSB arrested him and took him into custody.

After being released, Valentin vowed to make a fresh start with Nina and agreed to shared custody with Lulu so they could all be a part of Charlotte’s life. But the Cassadine still had secrets, like the one he shared with Peter August. Valentin knew that he was really Henrik Faison‘s son with Anna, and when that truth came out, Faison had killed Nathan, and Nina blamed Valentin for being partly responsible for her brother’s death.

Valentin desperately tried to win back Nina’s love, including discovering the baby she thought she’d lost years ago was still alive and tracking down Sasha Gilmore to reunite the two. This worked a treat, and Nina was so happy she even agreed to remarry Valentin. Unfortunately, Valentin and Sasha were lying, and it was all a big scheme so he could win back the woman he loves. And at Nina’s wedding, Lulu blurted out the truth, and Sasha confirmed she was not Nina’s daughter. While she took all the blame on herself, Nina still knew Valentin was part of the scheme and secretly plotted to destroy him.

At his and Nina’s New Year’s Eve wedding, Valentin pushed Ava over the parapet, but Nikolas rescued her and crashed the ceremony to reveal that the groom wasn’t even a real Cassadine! Valentin was stunned to learn that he was simply Helena’s son. He also reeled from the fact that Nina had set him up for the fall, and he had lost his lady love along with his fortune. Valentin moved on to gather up shares of ELQ, offering to help Brook Lynn Ashton get free of her sleazy manager in exchange for her part of the family business. He also invested in Deception and decided to back off of his ongoing battle with Lulu over custody of Charlotte.

After taking over ELQ, Valentin was hated by the Quartermaines, but while out drinking with Brook Lynn, the pair ended up in bed together! Valentin also teamed up with Anna to help stop Alex, and the two narrowly escaped her attempt to kill them. The pair also joined forces to try and put a stop to Peter’s reign of terror. Valentin got Peter to confess to him and then exposed his crimes at his and Maxie’s wedding! Valentin was stunned when Brook Lynn returned to Port Charles, ready to give birth to their child and promised to do whatever he could to be there for their baby. (What he didn’t realize was that she was faking it to get ELQ back for the family!) Valentin and Anna’s attempt to get rid of Peter hit a snag when he forced them to release him or he wouldn’t share the antidote to the poison he’d used on Harrison Chase!

Valentin moved into the Quartermaine mansion with Charlotte to be near Brook Lynn and their baby and she eventually presented him with newborn Bailey Louise Quartermaine. He fell in love with the baby girl, not realizing she was really Maxie’s daughter, Louise, who she was trying to protect from Peter. As Valentin teamed up with Anna to search for a missing Peter, sparks flew between them. And when their investigation took them to Crete, they each admitted their feelings and shared a kiss! But then things took a dangerous turn and Valentin was abducted and thrown into the same prison with Drew Cain! Victor Cassadine, who was working with Peter, claimed to be Valentin’s father, but he wasn’t sure he could believe that. Then, during an escape attempt, Valentin was shot by Peter!

Anna was by Valentin’s side as he underwent surgery and brought him home to Port Charles where he then grew suspicious of Brook Lynn. He pressed her to confess the truth and was heartbroken to learn that Bailey was not his daughter, but Chase’s! Eventually, Valentin put the pieces together and realized that Bailey was really Maxie and Peter’s daughter, Louise! But he couldn’t do anything with the knowledge because Victor had him kidnapped!

After Valentin was found in a dumpster, he was rushed to the hospital where he soon came out of his drugged state. He was relieved to find Charlotte safe, but was suspicious that Victor apparently “rescued” the little girl from her kidnapper. He also accepted Brook Lynn’s apology for lying to him and commended her on protecting an innocent child. He then left town to get himself together, and didn’t resurface again for months, this time in French Polynesia with Jennifer Smith!

He attempted to seduce the Ice Princess out from under her but they were interrupted by the WSB and Anna so he had to beat a hasty retreat. Once back in Port Charles, he reconnected with Anna and they shared a passionate kiss. He worried about his investment in Deception when he saw the photos of Sasha and her pills, but became more concerned about being pushed out of ELQ as Michael and Drew planned to merge the company with Aurora Media. Valentin approached Ned to try and team up against them, but he declined, hoping to make a deal with the family himself. And in the end, the attempt to oust Valentin as head of ELQ failed.

Valentin and Anna went on a date to the drive-in and while their relationship continued to develop, she still felt like he was hiding something from her. It was revealed that Victor was keeping Charlotte away from him at boarding school and forcing him to do his bidding. But when ordered to poison Laura, Valentin thankfully had an attack of conscience and stopped just in time! He confessed the truth to Anna so she wouldn’t leave him, and she promised to help him rescue Charlotte. As their relationship deepened, Anna and Valentin made love. But when Victor offered Valentin a chance to visit Charlotte if he left immediately and alone, he feared he was walking into a trap!

Thankfully, Valentin got help from Laura in defeating Victor’s guard and bringing Charlotte home safely. When Anna was framed for killing Lucy, Valentin got help from Sonny Corinthos to spring her during a prison transport and whisk her off to a safe house to hide. As they traveled the world, staying one step ahead of the law, their relationship deepened and they were finally able to locate Lucy in France using Anna’s old friend, Andre Maddox, and Valentin’s old contact, Renee. But Renee betrayed them and Valentin and Anna faked their deaths along with Lucy’s to give Victor’s men the slip. 

Valentin secretly met with Drew and enlisted him in the quest to stop Victor. They forced deputy mayor Eileen Ashby to help them set the villain up with a fake Ice Princess necklace to find out what he was really after. But Victor was onto them and found the location of the safe house. After forcing Valentin to hand over the real jewels, Victor punished his son by shooting Anna point-blank! Overjoyed when Anna survived surgery, Valentin later agreed to join the group going to Greenland to stop Victor in his tracks. Once there, Valentin sacrificed himself to the guards to be brought into the bunker to confront his father. Victor decided that he would test the deadly pathogen and the antidote on the man who was no longer his son and ordered Liesl Obrecht to inject him! After suffering visions of Helena, Valentin was rescued by Anna and given the antidote to save his life.

After Victor’s death, Valentin returned to Port Charles with everyone, and following the reading of his father’s will, he offered to accompany Laura when she went to Chechnya in search of Nikolas. Valentin also continued to deal with Sonny about the Pikeman deal, concerned about the attempt on the mobster’s life. Leaving Laura and Kevin to search Cassadine Island, Valentin returned to Port Charles, where Anna filled him in on the shooting at the Metro Court pool, suspicious about his involvement with Pikeman. After Anna’s house was torched, Dante saw the hole in Valentin’s alibi and Anna found some incriminating evidence. When someone vandalized Anna’s suite, Valentin went to Nina to check the security footage but kept quiet about the fact that it was Charlotte who had done it! 

Valentin tried to make things right by buying a new home for himself and Charlotte, hoping Anna would also move in with them, but not yet, as he needed to focus on his daughter. Valentin was horrified when Anna shot an intruder in her new apartment, who turned out to be Charlotte! Thankfully, the teen pulled through and Valentin told Anna what he knew about her actions and that she had been influenced by Victor from beyond the grave. Valentin was taken aback when Charlotte insisted that Anna had shot her on purpose and Anna later broke up with him.

As 2024 began, Valentin distracted himself by buying The Invader and hiring Nina as publisher after she’d been ousted from Crimson. It was then revealed that Valentin was running Pikeman with Jack Brennan and he also had tampered with Sonny’s bipolar meds so his behavior would become erratic. They hoped to frame Sonny for Jason’s murder but the assassins they sent after Jason failed. Valentin answered his satellite phone not realizing that it was Anna calling on the assassin’s end to see who would pick up! Valentin met with Brennan to report that the FBI had sent Jason to infiltrate Pikeman and assured him he’d get the charges against him dropped. 

Valentin continued to woo Anna as she came back into his life and confessed his love for her. Charlotte returned home from school and apologized to Anna for the way she had treated her. Valentin was then stunned when Anna suddenly insisted he had to leave the country ASAP because she’d turned him in to the FBI for being the head of Pikeman! He begged her to come with her but she turned him down and when the authorities broke down his door, Valentin and Charlotte were nowhere to be found.

In December 2024, Lulu had come out of her coma and was eager to find her daughter. Discovering Charlotte was in Prague, she quickly flew there to reunite with her but was horrified when Valentin interrupted. She argued that a life on the run was no good but Valentin countered that Charlotte had been shot in Port Charles. When Dante followed Lulu, Valentin realized he was in danger and a sniper took a shot at them in the cafe. After they took off, Charlotte apologized for contacting her mother and Valentin offered her the chance to go home with Lulu but she decided to stay with her Papa because he had no one else. A few weeks later, Valentin attempted to strangle Brennan to death, knowing he was the one who sent the sniper after him, but Carly Spencer interrupted and he had to flee again.

In March 2025, Valentin regretted not letting Charlotte go with Lulu, and when Jason and Anna showed up, he revealed that he’d pretended to be his daughter and texted Rocco so they’d know where they were. After Jason and Anna subdued the kill squad who came after them, Valentin insisted they take Charlotte back to Port Charles. Anna begged him to let her take him in and try to work out a deal, but he insisted he’d tried to kill Brennan, so the WSB was unlikely to let him live.

Valentin slipped back to Port Charles and poisoned Brennan’s champagne, but it was Carly who drank it and nearly died. He broke into his old house to get a fake passport (for Will Cortlandt!) and was caught by the new homeowner, Sonny. Although Sonny let him go, he tipped off Jack, who intercepted Valentin at the docks with a gun. He was prepared to end it once and for all, but Anna interrupted and insisted on arresting Valentin instead. At the station, Charlotte was able to say goodbye to her father before he was shipped off to Steinmauer Prison for a life sentence!

In September, Jack reached out to Valentin, hoping to get some information on Faison’s successor, but the Cassadine insisted on being allowed a visit with his daughter. He was delighted when Charlotte arrived in Switzerland the following month, but during their visit, he warned her that she and Rocco couldn’t trust a newly returned Britt Westbourne. He then received a surprise visit from his lawyer, who turned out to be Carly in disguise, wondering if he wanted to team up with her to help bring Jack down. She explained that she’d learned Brennan had put her daughter’s life in danger by secretly recruiting her to the WSB. Valentin agreed, and Carly convinced Jack to transfer the prisoner to a facility in America so Charlotte could visit more and the WSB could get more information from the Cassadine.

However, in December, Valentin showed up at Carly’s house, having escaped from WSB custody during the transfer!
