General Hospital Recap: Jason and Sonny Plot, Sidwell Taunts Drew, Laura’s Announcement Stuns and More

Comments

In the Thursday, February 26 episode of General Hospital, some tough conversations took place. Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) tried to smooth things over between Trina (Tabyana Ali) and Portia (Brook Kerr), Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Jason (Steve Burton) changed up their gameplan, Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) updated Diane (Carolyn Hennesy) on her political aspirations, Sidwell (Carlo Rota) delivered some upsetting news to Drew (Cameron Mathison) after drawing a hard line with Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), and Ezra (Daniel Cosgrove) attempted to change Laura’s (Genie Francis) mind about who their boss wanted appointed to Congress. Keep reading to see how it all went down.

The Truth Hurts

With rumors that Drew’s replacement was about to be announced, Kai lamented to Trina that his internship (and career in politics) would soon be over. Trina pointed out that the new rep might decide to keep him and be a better congressperson than Drew had been. Then, picking up her phone, Trina realized that she’d accidentally called her mom, who she had almost texted earlier. She confided in Kai that she’d held back from reaching out to Portia because she wasn’t ready to accept that her mom had moved on and was living with Isaiah.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Portia was appreciative when Isaiah stopped by her office with a snack, and he urged her not to read into it when Portia noticed that she had a hangup call from Trina. Portia was upset that she hadn’t spoken with her daughter since the day they all found out Curtis was the baby’s father, leading Isaiah to wonder if Trina’s issue was that they were living together. At that, Portia brought up how she’d just moved in without them discussing it and wanted to make sure that Isaiah was okay with all the steps they’d skipped over in their relationship. He assured her that he was happy with where their future was going, so who cared about how things were “supposed” to be. Portia was still concerned that her daughter cared, but hoped that would change once the baby was born.

Wanting to clear the air with Trina, Isaiah visited his lover’s daughter. She reluctantly let him into her apartment, so Kai headed out to give them privacy. A defensive Trina stated that she didn’t know why he was there, since her mom had made it clear she didn’t care what Trina thought of his and Portia’s relationship. Isaiah replied that Trina wasn’t being fair by pretending that things weren’t more complex than Portia just having an affair, and he couldn’t understand why she’d cut Portia off when her mom would do anything to set things right between them. When Trina snapped that her mom wasn’t willing to dump Isaiah, he retorted that it seemed like she wasn’t going to be happy until Portia ended up alone — and he didn’t think that was what Trina really wanted. After he left, Trina mulled over what Isaiah had said, and she headed to the hospital to see her mom.

I’ll Do It My Way

Laura was prepping for a press conference when Ezra stopped by on Sidwell’s orders. When Laura gave him flak about being Sidwell’s messenger, Ezra replied that they were both in the same position when it came to being extorted by the man, then informed the mayor that their boss wanted Willow to be appointed as Drew’s replacement in Congress. Scoffing, Laura refused, because she’d already offered the seat to Alexis Davis and the press conference to announce it was just hours away. In a moment of vulnerability, Ezra pointed out that he didn’t know how dangerous Jenz was until he was in too deep. He advised Laura that if she wanted to protect her family, she needed to accept the fact that she was in no position to refuse Sidwell’s demands.

Next, Laura wanted to know why Willow was Sidwell’s pick, since she had no political experience as a nurse, and an exasperated Ezra moaned that he didn’t know the reasons — it was just what Sidwell wanted. Realizing that Willow’s inexperience would make her Sidwell’s puppet, Laura declared that she was sticking with recommending Alexis, but Ezra thought that was a mistake since the attorney wouldn’t be easily swayed and wondered if Sidwell even knew Laura wanted to appoint Alexis. When an insulted Laura retorted that she didn’t discuss her decisions with Sidwell, Ezra said she’d save them all a lot of time if she started doing so and encouraged her to wise up and accept the fact that she was down in the mud with the rest of them. Then, Ezra got an alert on his phone that the press conference would start in 15 minutes, and Laura was shocked that Sidwell had had it moved up. Refusing to play by Sidwell’s rules, Laura informed Ezra that she’d be appointing Alexis and dared Jenz to do his worst.

Playing Hardball

Excited about the press conference, Jenz went to the Cain house to see Willow. When she told him she was declining his offer to replace Drew, since her priority needed to be helping her children get reacclimated to her, Jenz informed her that turning down the position was not an option, considering everything he’d done for her. She tried to argue that she wasn’t qualified, and doubted that Mayor Collins would even appoint her, but Jenz replied that he was the only constituent she needed to look out for and that he’d taken care of getting Laura’s approval. Still hesitant, Willow waffled that she didn’t understand why he wanted her in Congress, and Jenz shouted that all she had to understand was what he could do to her and her life if she refused. Backed into a corner, Willow agreed, knowing that Jenz had the power to take her children away.

Later, Nina arrived and was thrilled to learn that her daughter had decided to accept the political appointment, but noticed that Willow seemed a bit off. While Willow went to change into a power suit for the press conference, Sidwell commented to Nina that Port Charles would be in excellent hands with Willow in Congress. Her outfit changed, and having made arrangements with Drew’s caregiver, Willow returned to the living room, ready to go, but Sidwell asked to stay behind to visit with Drew.

Once Nina and Willow left, Sidwell went into the bedroom and immediately realized that Drew was blinking out S.O.S. Leaning over the bed, Sidwell informed Drew that after figuring out Willow had been the one to shoot him, he’d offered her access to the paralytic drug that mimicked the symptoms of a stroke. Sidwell added that Drew’s unhinged performance on the witness stand had convinced both him and Willow that Drew had become a liability, so they joined forces: Willow got partial custody of her children, and he got a much more pliant representative in Congress now that Willow was taking over her husband’s seat. Then, he warned Drew to stop trying to signal for help, since his caregivers were being paid off to look the other way, anyway. And given the way most of Port Charles felt about him, Drew wouldn’t have any visitors who wanted to help him.

Trouble Ahead

With her leg healed, Diane returned to working at the office — just in time for Alexis to let her know that she was taking Laura up on her offer to be Drew’s replacement in Congress and might not be around as much. Thrilled for her friend, Diane then played journalist and prepped Alexis by rattling off some hard-hitting questions regarding her criminal history and alcoholism that reporters would undoubtedly ask her at the press conference. She also advised Alexis to give Sonny a heads up before the press conference.

Meanwhile, at Sonny’s house, Jason told his friend about his meeting with WSB Director Cullum — and that Jack Brennan didn’t trust the man, either. With the kind of power Cullum had (including being able to protect Sidwell), Jason felt that the sooner they took him out, the better. Since Brennan didn’t want Cullum involved in the Five Poppies investigation, that was a rift they could take advantage of, Jason added. Sonny wasn’t sure why Jason had changed his mind about killing Cullum (since they needed him alive until they could replicate Britt’s medication), so Jason told him that they now had Lucas working on getting the drug from inside Wyndemere. Sonny worried that Lucas was in over his head, but Jason was sure that if they could get just one dose of the medication, they could take Cullum out, leaving Brennan in a position to take Sidwell down himself.

Next, Sonny received a call from Alexis about her imminent Congressional appointment. After hanging up, Sonny told Jason that Laura was making a mistake. While appointing Alexis was a wise move for the city, Alexis would eventually figure out that the mayor was taking orders from Sidwell, putting the mayor in further danger.

Bait And Switch

Back at Miller & Davis, Alexis vented to Diane about how Drew had abused his governmenl position to hurt people and hoped that she’d be able to reshape the system from working within it. Then, Diane got an alert that Laura was about to give a press conference. Thinking that something else must be going on, since her announcement wasn’t scheduled until the afternoon, Alexis logged on to the livestream. Meanwhile, Sonny and Jason, and Sidwell and Drew also tuned in to Laura’s speech.

After thanking Drew for his service, Mayor Collins announced that Mrs. Willow Cain would be the new representative for the state of New York. As Sidwell happily chuckled because things had gone his way, Drew, Alexis, Diane, Sonny, and Jason watched in shock as Willow approached the dais with Nina by her side and promised to continue her husband’s work in Washington, D.C.
