General Hospital Recap: Christmas Comes Early for Valentin and Britt As Port Charles Celebrates The Holiday

Comments

The December 24 episode of General Hospital marked Christmas Eve in Port Charles, and the holiday spirit was on full display. Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) received a Christmas miracle, Carly (Laura Wright) took a huge risk to make Valentin’s (James Patrick Stuart) wish come true, Rocco (Finn Carr) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) took a small step in repairing their relationship, and Trina (Tabyana Ali) tried to right some wrongs. There was a lot more that happened, too, so keep on reading for the full rundown!

Close Encounter

Valentin was decorating a small tree when Donna entered the attic, so he quickly hid behind a bookcase. Believing Santa had left the tree, Donna ran downstairs to tell her mom what she’d found. Meanwhile, Carly put on a good act about being disappointed that she couldn’t spend Christmas with Jack because Donna wanted to be with her dad. She marveled that when she visited him in prison, she never imagined they’d end up where they were, and Jack replied that she’d changed him in ways he never anticipated. When Donna then entered the kitchen, announcing that Santa had left her a tree in the attic, Carly was stunned, but quickly covered when Jack noticed her shocked expression. Carly stayed calm as Donna explained that she’d gone to the attic in search of ribbon for Sonny’s present. Before their conversation could go any further, Kristina arrived, and Jack swiftly exited.

Later, checking on Valentin, Carly rreassured him that her daughter wouldn’t enter the attic again after Christmas. Emotional about spending his first Christmas without Charlotte, Valentin thanked Carly for letting him hide out at her home. Meanwhile, Jack made a phone call outside Carly’s house, giving the other person the green light to pull the trigger on their plans for Britt Westbourne.

Feeling Santa-mental

Lulu, Charlotte, Rocco, Gio, and Dante gathered at Sonny’s house, but things were strained between Rocco and his dad. Rocco told his brother that he wasn’t ready to forgive Dante yet for the way he’d treated Gio, but Gio suggested Rocco give their dad a break for the way he’d been trying to make things better. Charlotte also suggested Rocco ease up on Dante. Meanwhile, Dante wanted to leave rather than ruin anyone’s Christmas. Sonny advised him to allow Rocco space to be mad, but he had to stick around to prove to his son that he was always going to be there, no matter what.

Since he had plans to meet Emma at the Scorpios, Gio said good-bye to Sonny. Sonny told him that learning Gio was his grandson was the best thing to happen to him all year. Gio replied with a smile that Sonny had always treated him like family, but now it was official. Then, Kristina arrived with Donna, noting that Carly was taking care of something at home. Donna asked Gio if he’d play Christmas carols for them on his violin the next day, but he said that he didn’t have a new violin yet. Donna proclaimed that maybe Santa would bring him one.

Carly showed up after Gio had gone to meet Emma, and Donna relayed the story to her mom that Gio still didn’t have a violin to play Christmas carols. After Kristina pulled Donna away, Sonny revealed to Carly that he and Ned had gone in on a new violin for the grandson and were just waiting for Gio to give them a sign that he was ready. She chuckled that she was surprised he and Ned partnered together, and Sonny replied that that was how much they loved their grandson.

Next, as Donna opened up the last panel of her Advent calendar to reveal a star chocolate, Charlotte pulled a key out of her jeans pocket and looked at it longingly. From across the room, Carly noticed the teen’s sad expression, then made an excuse that she needed Charlotte’s help to carry an old nativity set she’d forgotten at her house. And after much fanfare about finding the perfect ribbon, Donna gave Sonny her gift.

Noel Time Like The Present

Outside Maxie’s house, Brook Lynn asked Chase if he was okay spending Christmas Eve with Nathan and Mac, since he’d been suspended, and her husband replied that it was important to him to be there for Maxie’s kids. Once they were inside, Felicia shared with Brook Lynn that Spinelli had taken Georgie to Boston to see Maxie. Chase attempted to smooth things over with Mac, but was shut down because Mac wanted to keep the focus on the kids. Meanwhile, James excitedly told Nathan and Cody that he’d asked Santa for a saddle, then Felicia ushered the little boy into the den to FaceTime with Sasha, Daisy, and Uncle Robert in Australia. Nathan and Cody had ordered James the saddle he’d wanted, but when the package got held up at the distribution center, Cody called Molly for help retrieving it.

Nina and Obrecht also joined the gathering, but Nina wasn’t in a very festive mood, since she was missing her daughter and felt responsible for everything that had happened to Portia in court the day before. James asked Cody and Nathan if they were upset with him because he hadn’t wanted to visit Maxie. Both men assured James that his mom would have wanted him to enjoy Christmas, and Nathan promised to take him to see Maxie the next week.

Although Emma was disappointed that Anna hadn’t called her, she was happy to get a photo from her grandmother. Showing Felicia the picture of Anna decked out in ski gear, Emma mused that whatever her grandmother must be doing for the WSB had to be important if she was missing Christmas. When there was a knock on the door, Cody jumped to answer it, expecting Molly. Instead, it was Gio. James next helped Emma give Gio his present: She had her parents send her a didgeridoo, thinking the instrument would be a good way for him to ease back into music. Cody again jumped up to answer the door when there was another knock; this time, it was Molly, who told him she had his package in her car. Catching Nathan’s eye from across the room, Cody gave him a thumbs-up.

A Christmas Miracle

Suspended from the hospital following her testimony in court, Portia was packing up some things from her office when Elizabeth entered. When Liz shared that she hoped that the board would give Portia a second chance, Portia confided that she wasn’t getting her hopes up after the way she’d had to publicly confess to her affair. She also hoped that Trina would be able to forgive her. Liz invited Portia to stay the night at her place, but Portia wanted to spend some time alone and think. Once alone, Portia picked up the framed photo of her and Trina and cried as she flashed back to the fight she’d had with her daughter at the courthouse.

When Isaiah stopped by to check on her, Portia apologized for their involvement becoming public knowledge since he was now being investigated as well. Knowing she didn’t plan for it to happen that way, Isaiah replied that she didn’t have anything to be sorry for. Reaching for her hands, he added that if they were lucky, this would be their baby’s first Christmas, and he was hoping they could spend the holiday together.

In the spirit of Christmas, Britt and Lucas called a truce. Lucas had volunteered to work so another doctor could have off, but had plans with Marco later that evening. Britt was sad that she had to work instead of joining her mom, Nathan, and Nina at Maxie’s house, but added that it perhaps was for the best since things were still strained with her mom. Later, Britt received a text from her mom: a photo of Obrecht and Nathan smiling as they posed together. Showing Lucas the photo, Britt felt it was proof that her mom was happy she wasn’t there, but Lucas thought the message meant that Obrecht was thinking about her daughter.

Later, Lucas and Liz were at the hub when Britt returned from getting coffee. Picking up her phone, she saw a message that her medical license had been reinstated. Liz cheered that Portia and Terry would now be Britt’s bosses, and Lucas stated that his letter had helped. “I don’t care how it happened. I’m going to be a doctor again!” Britt chirped. “Merry Christmas to me!”

Apology Tour

Curtis told Marshall, who was home for Christmas, that he was struggling with the idea that Portia’s baby might not be his. He asked his father and Aunt Stella to help him stay focused on the blessings in his life for Trina’s sake and not dwell on the negative. Even though Trina wasn’t in a Christmas-y mood, she and Kai joined her family’s celebration. She revealed to Stella that she felt hurt by her mom all over again, just like she had when the truth about her real father had come out, but ultimately decided she wasn’t going to let Portia’s actions ruin her holiday.

When there was later a knock at the door, Trina moved to open the door as Stella and Marshall wondered if Portia had the nerve to show up. Everyone seemed surprised to see Jordan standing there, and Trina announced that she’d invited Jordan over. Next, Trina apologized for blaming Jordan for her parents’ breakup, then apologized to Curtis for accusing him of cheating on her mother. With all forgiven, Stella insisted Jordan stay. After dinner, Kai noticed Trina’s relief that a text message came in from Ava, and not her mom. Trina revealed that she was surprised her mom hadn’t bombarded her with calls trying to explain, but was glad Portia was keeping a distance. Kai promised to support Trina no matter what she decided to do about her mom.

Silent Night, Holy Night

Trina and Kai brought out Marshall’s clarinet, and the musician played “Silent Night” while his granddaughter sang the Christmas carol. As Trina sang, a montage played out: Portia left the hospital hand in hand with Isaiah, and Jack entered G.H. just as an excited Britt sent her mother a message about her license. At Maxie’s house, Nina, Maxie, and Nathan smiled as they read Britt’s text, and the family cheered for James after he hung stockings on the mantel. Gio hugged Emma, Chase hugged Brook Lynn, then mother and son shared a smile from across the room. At Sonny’s, Rocco shared the last cookie with Dante, and Sonny unwrapped Donna’s present to see that she’d made him an ornament that proclaimed, “I love my Daddy.” Finally, Carly opened the door to her attic, and Charlotte and Valentin shared a teary reunion.
