Fans weren’t the only ones who were moved when they saw that Young and Restless had rebuilt Victor and Nikki’s longtime home. In 2012, Sharon had burned down the ranch, a decision that upset fans and the actors too. Now it has been restored and the finished product made 83-year-old actor Eric Braeden (Victor) emotional.

Going Home Again

In a new interview with TV Insider, Braeden opened up about how it felt to lose the iconic set. “It was an outrage and one of the dumbest decisions ever,” he told the website.

Luckily, the show decided it was time to fix that wrong and wrote into the story that Victor decided to surprise his wife with their home looking almost exactly as it had before the fire.

When he first walked onto the new “old” set, his reaction to the final product took the actor by surprise. “I was a little overwhelmed,” he told the site. “I really was touched because the old set meant so much to the Nikki/Victor relationship. And they did a wonderful job. I was just flooded with emotions because it’s stepping back into a milieu that we’ve almost forgotten about. It touched me. It really did.”

The restoration of the site meant a lot to his on-screen wife as well. Actress Melody Thomas Scott, who plays Nikki, told Digest, “It was truly like taking a step back in time,” she reports. “Josh wanted to be with Eric and me when we saw the new set for the very first time… When we were finally ushered into the set, we were in shock. Our beloved Newman Ranch was finally back, in all its glory. The very essence of the original is alive and well in this new set.”

The new set is on full display this week as the show marks its 13,000 episode with the lavish wedding of Victor’s daughter, Abby, to Devon — with the ceremony being held at the ranch. Viewers will see the actual milestone episode when it airs Wednesday, November 13.
