Dominic Zamprogna Vs. the Cylons

Comments

Syfy is launching a new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA spin-off called CAPRICA, and recently aired THE PLAN, telling the story of the cylons from their perspective. GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) appeared on BSG from 2004-’06 as Jammer, a character who decided to collaborate with the cylon occupiers of the New Caprica colony — and paid the ultimate price. Zamprogna colluded with us to share memories.Soap Opera Weekly: When you were on GALACTICA, your character, Jammer, was pretty pivotal to the New Caprica sequence.

Dominic Zamprogna: Yeah, that was probably one of the coolest shows I’ve ever been on.

Weekly: That storyline was quite controversial, because it made the audience question their views of suicide bombers.

Zamprogna: It [was] an effective show. It looked good, the acting was good, the writing was good. Everything from top to bottom [made it] the coolest show. I didn’t like the fact that I got killed off, but….

Weekly: Well, at least the question of whether to execute Jammer for collaborating with the cylons was a big moral issue.

Zamprogna: They did make it a big thing, because they didn’t make him disappear. But the fact that the people who killed him [Col. Tigh, et al] were cylons themselves was a little…

Weekly: It added another layer.

Zamprogna: Yeah! BATTLESTAR added a lot of depth to that character, like the fact that he did become a collaborator. But he wasn’t a bad guy; he was just looking out for himself and trying not to get killed.

Weekly: He was a resistance fighter, then a collaborating police officer — but he helped Cally escape cylon custody!

Zamprogna: Yes, and when you get to play characters with cool principles, where people might think you’re one thing — Jammer was trying to be a cop for all the right reasons, and then he goes and does something like let Cally go — it’s more interesting to play; it’s more fun.
