Days of Our Lives Renewed! Soap Receives Two-Year Pickup From Peacock, Taking It To Its 63rd Season
Days of Our Lives has received a huge show of faith from its new home, Peacock — the streaming service has given the soap a two-year pickup. This renewal will take the soap, which premiered on NBC on November 8, 1965, to its 63rd season. The show made the full-time move to Peacock from NBC in September 2022. DAYS had proven to be success on the streaming service with spin-off installments of Beyond Salem, so when news came that the mothership would move there as well, it wasn’t a total shock to industry followers. The soap has ranked among the top 15 entertainment series on the platform consistently since September 2022.
Salem Lives On
The soap was created by current Executive Producer Ken Corday’s parents, Ted and Betty Corday, as well as soap pioneer Irna Phillips. It is now produced by Corday Productions Inc. in association with Sony Pictures Television. This past season was a turbulent one for the about-to-be 60-year-old soap as it had to say good-bye to two longtime leading men — Bill Hayes, who played Doug Williams since 1970 and Drake Hogestyn, who played John Black since 1986, who passed away in 2023 and 2024, respectively. The show also went through some behind-the-scenes changes, with Janet Drucker retiring as co-executive producer and Noel Maxam succeeding her in the key role. This switch came on the heels of the material of DAYS’s new head-writing team, Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford, beginning to air this past spring.
The show was recently honored with 13 Daytime Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Daytime Drama Series, marking the highest number of nominations the series has received since its exclusive debut on Peacock.
As one of the longest-running scripted television programs in the world, it is enjoyed in many foreign territories including Canada, Sweden, New Zealand, Israel, South Africa, and Australia.
