Days of our Lives Icon Peter Reckell Chats Live With Michael Fairman
On Thursday, March 6 at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT, Days of our Lives icon Peter Reckell (Bo Brady) will be chatting live with Michael Fairman on his YouTube channel and the beloved actor will pay tribute to former DAYS co-stars Drake Hogestyn (ex-John Black) and Wayne Northrop (ex-Roman Brady; ex-Alex North), reflect on Bo and Hope’s enduring love story and more.
A Walk Down Memory Lane
Reckell joined the soap world in 1980 when he was cast as Eric Hollister on As The World Turns. While there, he was paired with future Desperate Housewives and China Beach star Dana Delany, who played Hayley Wilson. Their two characters married and left Oakdale for Seattle. Reckell’s Eric briefly returned in 1982 to wrap up a story with Cricket Montgomery and before heading back to Seattle soon after.
While he enjoyed popularity on the CBS soap, Reckell’s fame would explode when he joined the DAYS cast in 1983 playing Roman’s younger brother. His pairing with Kristian Alfonso’s Hope thrilled fans as they followed the pair’s adventures, which would solidify them as a supercouple. Hope was a teen who went against her father Doug’s wishes by dating Bo, but even her dear dad’s disapproval couldn’t keep these two apart. Hope rescued her on her wedding day to Larry Welch and whisked her away to an adventure in New Orleans. After bringing down the Dragon in 1985, the two married in a beautiful ceremony in England. Bo also had to deal with the apparent death of Roman at the hands of Stefano DiMera, then his brother’s seeming resurrection when Hogestyn first joined the show in 198 and John was believed to be Roman. (Northrop’s return to the show in 1991 reversed that claim, as the actor reprised Roman and Hogestyn’s character reverted to John.) After giving birth to their first child Shawn-Douglas, the Bo and Hope (and their portrayers) left in 1987.
Reckell returned with Alfonso in 1990 and while she departed that same year, he stayed until 1992. The role was recast with Robert Kelker-Kelly but Reckell came back in 1995 and he ended up staying until 2012 when Bo left with his mother, Caroline. In 2015, he returned to save Hope but then seemingly died of a brain tumor.
Fans rejoiced when in 2022, he appeared in the show’s second streaming project, Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem and in 2023, he was brought back to Days of our Lives where it was revealed he was cryogenically frozen by former girlfriend Megan. He eventually reunited with Hope but ended up in a coma when he was shot by his son, Shawn, who thought he was going to hurt his mother. The actor has been tapped to return later this year.
