Days of Our Lives Comings & Goings: Billy Flynn Has ‘A Lot of Gratitude’ as Final Chad Episode Airs

Comments

The Days of Our Lives episode that first streamed on Peacock on Tuesday, February 17 was the final episode for Billy Flynn, as his character of Chad DiMera left Salem with his children, Thomas (Cary Christopher) and Charlotte (Autumn Gendron). However, due to DAYS’s advanced production schedule, his actual departure came nearly a year after the news broke in March 2025 that he would be leaving the soap where he’d been playing Chad since 2014.

While continuing to air on DAYS, Flynn has also been appearing on Young and Restless as the new Cane Ashby, a role he assumed back in June 2025. “I’m just ready for that chapter to be closed,” the actor told TV Insider of his DAYS run finally wrapping up. “It feels like I’m lingering too long and it’s tough to start a new chapter when you’re still in the other one. It’s just an odd feeling; that’s the only way I can express it. It’s too much of me. Nobody needs that much of me.”

Leaving Home

As Chad bid farewell to Salem, Flynn was also saying good-bye to the soap that he’d called home for over a decade. “The stuff that’s airing now is what I remember fondly because they are genuine good-byes,” he recalled. “I had one with Dan [Feuerriegel, EJ] and Susan Hayes [Julie], and I loved being able to do the story with Missy [Reeves, Jennifer] and Matt [Ashford, Jack].”

The Daytime Emmy Award nominee will always hold a special place in his heart for the many years that he spent in Salem. “I love DAYS, and I loved the character of Chad so much,” Flynn shared. “It’s just a lot of gratitude. Having a job changed my life, and everything in my life changed so much. I have two children, I got sober on the show, and it gave me a life beyond my wildest dreams, so it’s hard to have anything other than gratitude for all of it.”

Flynn is also proud of his part in making Chad and Abigail a popular supercouple with fans, opposite both Kate Mansi (now Kristina on General Hospital) and Marci Miller. “To be a part of a huge couple with two actresses was amazing,” he said. “It’s chemistry, and it’s a hard thing to do, but I also think the people you bring on makes a big difference. Kate had a say when I came on. Kate picked me, and when Marci came on, that was who I picked. I still think it’s a beautiful love story.”

When Flynn first took over the role of Cane on Y&R, he briefly overlapped with Conner Floyd, who was exiting the role of Chance Chancellor. Now, Floyd has taken over the role of Chad and is scheduled to make his first appearance on DAYS on April 21. “I’m really excited to see what he does with it,” Flynn shared. “He’s handsome, and such a sweet guy, and I think that he was the perfect choice to take over that part. I’m looking forward to April, when he can actually start. I think it’ll be good for everybody and let the character move on.”
