DAYS Exclusive: Robert Scott Wilson (Alex) on AlexAnn Hopkins’s (Joy) Exit
AlexAnn Hopkins, who made her Days of Our Lives debut in October 2024, has wrapped her Salem run. She last aired on March 19. A DAYS spokesperson confirmed her exit to TV Insider, saying, “We enjoyed having AlexAnn bring the character of Joy to life, it was a short yet important story arc, and we hope the fans enjoyed watching it unfold.”
In the storyline, Joy slipped out of town while pregnant, presumably with Alex’s baby — that is, after she lied and swore that her hospital tests revealed that she wasn’t with child. Robert Scott Wilson (Alex), who worked closely with Hopkins during her months on the show, tells Soap Opera Digest that he was sorry to see Hopkins leave. “She was fantastic. She is fantastic,” he attests. “I’m sure they’ll revisit that story sooner or later. I’m not sure when, but AlexAnn was really, really great. The amount [of material] that we did have together, I think she really showed up and always did really great work.”
Parting Ways
Wilson says that he was surprised that the actress was written out considering the status of their storyline and the potential for more drama moving forward. “I don’t know all the ins and outs,” begins Wilson about Hopkins’s departure. “We didn’t get to really dig into it personally that much, but AlexAnn is part of the fabric here, and there’s a whole lot of story that’s left to be told. So I’m sure they’ll do something with her and myself in the future at some point down the line.”
Wilson reveals that he’ll miss a lot about working with Hopkins. “I just liked the spontaneity of our scenes together,” he reflects. “We always had a really good rapport, even if we didn’t get to rehearse as much as we would have liked to. We always tried to squeeze in the time for as much rehearsal as we could. But a lot of the really good gold moments happened because there was a spontaneity in her availability to be open in a scene.
“That’s a sign of any good actor,” continues Wilson. “It’s just being available and doing enough work on your own. That way, when we come together [in a scene], it has some nice nuances and a nice continuity as well. I thought that AlexAnn was really good at that for not being at DAYS that long. I think she did a really great job with all of it.”
Wilson gives credit to DAYS casting director, Marnie Saitta, for finding Hopkins for the role of Joy. “It’s just Marnie doing her thing, man,” says Wilson with a smile. “She’s such a great person and such a great casting director. She’s got an eye for good talent, and that goes to show that AlexAnn got that role for a reason.”
At the time of Joy’s departure, Alex and Stephanie were both left in the dark regarding Joy’s pregnancy. “I think there was a part of Alex [that thought Joy could be lying about not being pregnant], but he really wasn’t sure,” offers Wilson. “I also don’t think that he really thought it was his [baby], potentially. I still don’t think he knows that.”
