After Alex’s crash-and-burn relationship with Theresa, and Stephanie’s failed romances with Chad and Everett, Days of our Lives opted to resurrect Alex and Stephanie as a couple, and actors Robert Scott Wilson (Alex) and Abigail Klein (Stephanie) were both surprised — in a good way — by the reunion.

Starting Over

“You know, I didn’t see that coming, honestly,” says Klein. “But I’m thrilled to be working with Rob again. He is really, really fun to work with. And I think this second time around, too, we know each other more, we know each other better. So it’s almost different; it feels different, both off screen and on screen.”

Wilson totally agrees with Klein’s sentiments, and raves, “Abigail is an absolute rock star of an actress. I love working with her, and we’ve got a great thing going. We’ve got a great relationship. So I was excited to see that’s where it was going to head. I think that’s what a lot of fans wanted, too, because something had started [between Alex and Stephanie] and it was kind of interesting how they broke them up.”

The pair first split back when Alex intercepted a crucial phone call from Chad to Stephanie, and she wasn’t able to be by her mother’s side when Kayla “died.” However, Kayla was miraculously brought back to life, and Alex and Stephanie have since moved past the incident. But their reunion has not been without its challenges, such as when they found themselves smack dab in the middle of a workplace scandal after the pair was exposed for having sex on the Body and Soul set. “Stephanie Johnson is the owner and operator of her own publicity company,” reminds Klein. “So when there’s a little scandal happening that she’s a part of, she has to do her own crisis management. She has to do her own crisis control. That, of course, was not ideal, and it threw her off her game. That’s why she was really frantic with wanting to end things with Alex and keep everything copacetic with Kate.”

Not that that’s really what Stephanie wanted — and neither did Klein, who is pleased that the couple were able to navigate through the whole mess and move forward. “It’s fun to see where this could possibly go, where they could go,” remarks Klein.

Wilson believes his character, a former love ’em and leave ’em playboy, is better prepared and equipped to have a more genuine, mature relationship this time around. “Alex is older and wiser. He’s a little bit more settled down,” muses Wilson. “He can invest in a relationship now, and he also learned some lessons. He doesn’t do dumb things anymore. Well, he probably still does some dumb sh–, but he’s ready to settle down. And Stephanie… That’s his girl.”
