Soap Opera Digest: Talk about your new movie, FRAMED BY MY FIANCÉ.
Jason Shane-Scott: It’s something that we shot in June. It was something that came to me from a director [Fred Olen Ray] that I worked before. He said, “This time I got a bad guy role for you and you don’t get killed [laughs]!” I was doing a couple of things with him where I got killed off. And it’s with Katrina Bowden who’s super-cool, a great actress. It’s about these two people who get engaged, and they get in a car accident the night of their engagement and he sort of becomes an evil person and puts his career and his life ahead of his love and their relationship. To his credit, he thinks this is a viable plan, that she wouldn’t get in trouble … it’s very smart, the way they’ve justified his evilness.

It’s going to be on Lifetime, right?
Lifetime movies get sort of a bad rap, “this person’s crazy and they want revenge,” or “some crazy person’s stalking somebody,” and I don’t think there’s much tolerance for that anymore. They have to be a little more believable — maybe a little quirky — and based in reality. And from an acting [standpoint], you have to justify everybody’s actions, you know?

How was working with Katrina Bowden?
She’s great. I knew of her from 30 ROCK and I’d never worked with her before. It’s always funny in acting, you show up and it’s like, “Hey, I’m your fiancé!” She’s a pro and a really great actress and I felt like we had really good chemistry.

We’ve heard that you and [real-life love] Lindsay Hartley (ex-Theresa, PASSIONS et al) wrote a film together.
We’ve actually written four now. We’ve gotten two made. One was shot in May, that we’re in, called DEADLY EXCHANGE. That should be airing on Lifetime soon, maybe before the end of the year or early next year. Our second movie, REUNION, was shot in Louisville. We weren’t in that one but we wrote it from concept to script to shooting script. And then we have a third one, which we’ll hopefully be shooting in January. We should be finding out any time now. We also have a fourth one that is up for review with the film company soon. If all goes as planned, we’d have four movies produced in a year. We’ve been busy!

With all your writing and acting in these films, would you return to soaps?
Yeah, I would definitely go back to a soap. So many actors want to be on them, and there’s so few left. People I’ve worked with closely are still there, like Frank Valentini [executive producer] is at GENERAL HOSPITAL and Ron Carlivati [head writer, DAYS]. It just hasn’t been the right timing. I’m always open for consistent employment!

See FRAMED BY MY FIANCÉ on Friday, November 24 at 8 p.m/7 p.m. central on Lifetime.
