Braedyn Bruner Teases ‘Furious’ Emma’s Next Move On GH (Exclusive)

This Means War: Don’t expect Emma to be buddy-buddy with Josslyn (Eden McCoy) anytime soon.

On General Hospital, Emma Scorpio-Drake’s negative opinion of childhood rival Josslyn Jacks has been softening in recent weeks as the two young women have opened up to and gained insight into one another. But the building blocks of their tentative friendship has come crashing down now that Joss has secured the research assistant position with Professor Dalton that Emma coveted — especially since Emma (rightly) suspects that Joss, who secretly needed to snag the job as part of her WSB mission, sabotaged her candidacy. Soap Opera Digest checked in with Emma’s portrayer, Braeden Bruner, about how this affects her alter ego moving forward.

Job Insecurity

On the beach earlier this month, Emma confided in Joss that she believes Professor Dalton is conducting illegal testing on animals as part of his research. “For Emma, this is a mission for justice,” says Bruner of Emma’s desire to take Dalton down. “I think the pursuit of justice is what motivates her day in and day out, because she just feels like she’s some kind of bystander otherwise. Emma has her own motivations for why she wants that position with Dalton, and Josslyn obviously has her own motivations for why she wants that position.” But while Joss knows what was driving Emma, the actress points out, “Emma doesn’t know what Joss’s motivations are yet, which is where things get interesting.”

Oblivious to Joss’s own desire to provide potentially critical aid to the WSB in its efforts to nab Dalton, “Emma is absolutely furious,” Bruner declares. “And Emma is not someone who just lets things go — particularly after Emma opened up to Josslyn about why the position was so important to her. We don’t see Emma being vulnerable very often, so this was a big deal. She shared a lot with Josslyn, especially with Joss being someone who was her frenemy. She felt comfortable enough to share all of that with her and she really felt like they bonded — and then it all gets taken away from her in an instant.”

Bruner stresses that for Emma, “It’s not just about the research position. I think Emma is someone who thinks 20 steps ahead in life and she was viewing this as her future. I mean, she wants to be like Anna. She wants to save the world; she wants to save everything and everyone.” So, as Emma sees it, “Joss is not only hindering this mission she’s on, but also her whole future. And I think that kind of destroys her in a lot of ways.”

According to the actress, Emma may be down, but she’s far from out — and in the near future, she’ll come up with a way to at least try to regain the upper hand from Joss and continue her pursuit of justice on the Dalton front. Hints Bruner, “Emma is so intelligent and she picks up on every detail and she’s always thinking 10 steps ahead of everyone. [She observes something] that makes her feel like, ‘Okay, I can use this to my advantage.’ Emma’s feeling is, ‘I have to get this position, whatever it takes.’ I should [clarify] that I do think she does have limits and boundaries as to what she would do; there are definitely lines she wouldn’t cross, but there are things she would capitalize on if it means securing that research position.”
