In the first major casting shakeup for CBS’s newest daytime entry, Beyond The Gates has recast the role of plastic surgeon Ted Richardson. In May, soap newcomer Keith D. Robinson (r.) will assume the role of Nicole Dupree Richardson’s (Daphnee Duplaix) husband from Maurice Johnson. Deadline was the first to report the news of the switch.

On Instagram, Robinson wrote of his new gig, ” ‘God is Good ✨️’. . . .This is gonna be a fun ride.” He went on to thank Executive Producer Sheila Ducksworth, CBS, the NAACP and his representatives, along with “the friends, family, prayer warriors that hold me down on this crazy journey called show business. Glad to be the topic of your daily water cooler conversations along with my talented comrades 🙌🏾.”
Born in Kentucky and raised in Greenville, South Carolina, Robinson attended the University of Georgia and landed a record deal with Motown. Later, he settled in Los Angeles to further his show business career, appearing on TV series like Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue, ER, American Dreams, Half & Half, Monk, Major Crimes, NCIS, White Collar and A Million Little Things. The actor has also notched film credits, with key roles in the Academy Award-winning 2006 musical Dreamgirls and in the 2017 Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez On Me.
As for Johnson, his hiring as one of BTG’s original cast members was announced in October 2024, and he cheered the news in an Instagram post. “I can’t wait to see what God has in store for my #BeyondTheGates tv family!” he wrote. “@sheiladucks I’m honored for you entrusting me with your vision for Ted and [Creator/Head Writer/Executive Producer] @michelevaljean for your brilliant characters. @cbstv @cbstvstudios I am over the moon with another project and for the network championing DEI programming. Many talk about it but you have lead the way! To the casting Queen @therealkimcoleman @kimcolemancasting thank you for seeing my light and giving me the nod💜 @naacp @proctor.and.gamble we’re #forevergrateful.”
His final air date as Ted has not been revealed.
