Filled with grief, Amber turns to pills to ease the pain. She becomes addicted and eventually goes to Taylor for help. Taylor gets Amber into a rehab center and Rick supports her recovery. After coming home, the Forresters throw Amber a beach party. At the party, a guy named Lance (paid by Shelia) drugs Amber and takes her back to his place. The next morning, Lance tells Amber that she got drunk, but they only fooled around and didn’t sleep together. Amber goes home and tells Rick that she woke up with Lance but cannot remember anything else. Rick is furious. Amber moves in with Taylor, who believes Amber was drugged by Lance. Amber questions Lance, but Sheila kills him before he can tell Amber the truth. Sheila then kidnaps Amber, determined to install her own daughter as Rick’s love interest and Little Eric’s mother. In another scandal, Amber prepares to announce that she is resigning from Forrester because of an X-rated video that has surfaced. Before she can make the announcement, however, her look-alike, April, enters the press conference and announces that she — Amber’s then-unknown twin sister — made the video. April reveals to Amber, Rick, Eric and Stephanie that Tawny gave them up for adoption at birth. However, Amber’s adoption failed and Tawny had no choice but to take Amber back. Amber and Rick thank April for saving Forrester Creations and letting Amber off the hook. April asks for nothing in return, but mentions she came to L.A. to try her luck in a singing career. April soon lands a gig on Craig Kilborn’s show. April meets Deacon and he helps her negotiate for more money on a contract. He becomes April’s agent, and the two have a brief fling. Deacon brokers a recording deal for her, and April goes on the road. Meanwhile, Rick and Amber learn they have no legal right to Little Eric. Deacon marries Macy and challenges Rick and Amber for custody of his son. Afraid to lose, Amber kidnaps the baby and goes on the run, thereby giving the judge ample reason to award custody to Deacon and Macy. The stunt is the final straw for Rick, who finally walks out on Amber.
