2006 Daytime Emmy Awards Notebook
Marie Wilson (Meg, ATWT), who is used to flying home to L.A. every weekend, was one of the first stars to arrive and was anxious to hook up with her co-stars.
Mary Beth Evans (Kayla, DAYS; ex-Sierra, ATWT; ex-Katherine, GH) arrived with Stephen Nichols (Steve, DAYS; ex-Stefan, GH). “Now that I have been on so many shows, I have so many people to catch up with. I’m excited,” she said. DAYS’s Darrin Brooks (Max) wanted to meet Nichols. “I understand he had a lot to do with my character,” said the Salem newcomer.
It was an AW reunion when Linda Dano (ex-Felicia, AW, et al) mingled with good friend John Aprea (ex-Lucas/Alexander) and former on-screen daughter Alicia Coppola (ex-Lorna). Other former Bay City residents in attendance included Ricky Paull Goldin (Gus, GL; ex-Dean) and Judi Evans (Bonnie; DAYS, ex-Paulina).
Ryan McPartlin (ex-Hank, PASSIONS) and wife Danielle attended with friends Thad Luckinbill (J.T., Y&R) and PORT CHARLES alum Brian (ex-Jack) and Erin Presley (ex-Alison). McPartlin told us he’s working on an USA Network pilot, and he and Danielle are opening a clothing store outside of Los Angeles next year. McPartlin was looking to chat with B&B Executive Producer/Head Writer Brad Bell about his golf handicap; McPartlin saw the number posted on a wall at Bell’s country club in Wisconsin.
Liza Huber (Gwen, PASSIONS) and husband Alex arrived minutes after her parents, Susan Lucci (Erica, AMC) and Helmet Huber and opted to go home afterward, rather than hit another gathering. “One party per night is enough,” Liza laughed.
Richard Steinmetz (Martin, PASSIONS; ex-Jeff, LOVING) was happy to catch up with the recently-returned Kelli McCarty (Beth). He was also thrilled to see LOVING alum Laura Wright
(Carly, GH; ex-ALLY, LOVING).
Amelia Marshall (Liz, PASSIONS), who borrowed her gold necklace and earring set from the wardrobe department, met newcomer Adrian Bellani (Miguel) for the first time. “I was told that he’s a very gorgeous man — and it’s true,” she smiled.
Bobbie Eakes (Krystal, AMC) was surprised when Laura Wright started off introductions as, “I don’t think you know who I am…” Eakes countered with a laugh and said, “Of course I do!”
Sydney Penny (Julia, AMC) was disappointed because she couldn’t get “the kids” — or the younger members of her cast as we know them — to go out after the SOAPnet party. “They all wanted to go back to the hotel and rest,” she giggled.
When Julie Pinson (Billie, DAYS) bumped into red carpet correspondent and style guru Linda Dano, the gals referred to each other as “my almost-mom” and “my almost-daughter,” referencing Dano’s stint on PORT CHARLES when Rae wondered if Eve was the baby she gave up for adoption. (It was later revealed to be Skye.)
Outstanding Younger Actress Nominee Christel Khalil (ex-Lily, Y&R) met her recast, Davetta Sherwood, at the SOAPnet party. “I think it was surreal for people to see us together,” laughed Khalil.
