1990: Barbara and Emily continued their battles; Paul sided mostly with Em. Babs was horrified when Paul accepted a full-time position at Lily’s company, where Emily was by then also employed. Because Brock was now dead, Em reunited with Paul and even moved in with him. So, Barbara pulled some strings to have Emily transferred to L.A., infuriating Paul, who threatened to destroy his mother’s marriage by revealing that Hal was not baby Jennifer’s father. But he didn’t have the chance — after turning down his marriage proposal, Em left town.1991: After deciding that there are only two kinds of women in the world –those who are weak and those who are manipulative like his mother — Paul decided to swear off the opposite sex for a while, as more and more people noted that he was starting to behave like his father. He didn’t keep his vow long, however, and took to sleeping with Hal’s niece, Tess, until he found out she was just after his money. After that, he and his mother agreed to stay out of each other’s lives, and by the end of the year, he moved to Europe. Though not seen on-screen, he apparently introduced Lily to her husband-to-be, Damian, on New Year’s Eve 1992 in Rome and also reconnected with old friend Dusty overseas.
1996: Paul returned to Oakdale to launch EAS, an online shopping club. He rebuffed Emily’s attempts to seduce him (using the old love letters) and hired mousy Sarah Kasnoff to work for him. But his father continued to haunt Paul, so he bought the Stewart cabin, where he and his father had hid out years ago, with plans to torch it. Emily stopped him from burning the place down, and after an emotional talk, they nearly had sex — until Sarah interrupted. Paul and Sarah had a brief and innocent romance before he left for Paris again.
