The Men Of GH Band Together — Literally

If you’re a soap fan who’s savvy on the Internet, then you’re well aware that Steve Burton (Jason) has called upon a few of his GENERAL HOSPITAL co-stars to make a longstanding dream of his come true. Here, Scott Reeves (Steven) explains how Burton and the boys will be making beautiful music together….Soap Opera Digest: Tell us about your newly created band, Port Chuck.

Scott Reeves: That has been such a blast. Steve Burton [Jason] and I, we’re like brothers. We were sitting around chatting one night and he said [his] fantasy is to have an ’80s rock band at his beck and call. He is so passionate about the ’80s, it cracks me up, and he said, “You know what? We need to put a cover band together,” and he thought of Brandon [Barash, Johnny] and Bradford [Anderson, Spinelli], because they both sing.

Digest: How’d the initial meeting go?

Reeves: We got together one night and I pulled out my guitar and we sat around and started knocking out some old tunes that everybody knew, and just had a blast with it. Then Steve said, “We’ve got to go take this on the road.”

Digest: And the band name? Where’d that come from?

Reeves: We tossed around a bunch of names and finally Port Chuck was the one that stuck.

Digest: And you’re going on tour?

Reeves: We’re going to be playing in Nashville on September 8 and then embarking on like a 4-5 day tour up into Chicago, over to Connecticut and then New York, so we’re excited about that.

Digest: All of a sudden you come to GH and now there’s a real-life rock band?
Reeves [laughs]: Exactly, a GH cover band for the country. Who knows? They might show up at Jake’s one night [laughs].

Digest: Where can fans go for more info?

Reeves: There’s www.portchuck.com, and we’ve been exclusively sharing some things through the Web site www.daytime connection.com. It’s an awesome site. The brainchild behind that is Michael Saucedo [ex-Juan, GH], Becky Herbst‘s [Elizabeth] husband. That’s been his baby, and it’s been a great way for soap fans to get up close and personal.

Digest: You’re really taking things to a new level.

Reeves: Absolutely. I think soap stars are much more accessible to their fans than actors in a lot of the other mediums, and we want to get out there and share with these guys another piece of who we are and really make it worth their while to come out and get to know us. We want to give them a show, meet them and sign autographs, and this is a neat way to do that.

Digest: We know you’re a guitarist. Do the other guys play instruments?

Reeves: I know Brandon fiddles with the piano, so he’ll probably do a couple songs on the piano, and we’re going to throw a shaker in Bradford’s hand [laughs].

Digest: What about Grandmaster B, Mr. Steve Burton?

Reeves: You never know what you’re going to get. In fact, oh gosh, what should I say? There’s something under the grass in the Easter basket that has to do with Steve [laughs]. Steve is very talented. He’s much more talented than you would ever guess. I think people are going to be really surprised when they see Steve pop out with his musical ability, and that’s as far as I’m going to go with that [laughs],
