Blogging With Gabby

August 28, 2008

It's been a while since I blogged; my apologies. Where to start? Between the Mets, MAD MEN, and MSNBC for political stuff, there's been a lot of nighttime TV viewing lately. Still crazy about OLTL, too.

I've gushed over this before (and no, it's not about MAD MEN, so stop rolling your eyes), and I will continue to gush until ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Rex, Gigi and Bo are back in 2008 for good.

So, how many of your have started to watch MAD MEN? Hmmm? 'Fess up. I'm loving it and loving the Monday morning office discussion I have with a colleague. It's such a fun show to watch closely and study. It's been forever since I've felt that way about a show.

Frequent readers of my blog (and I hope there are more than five of you) know what a big MAD MEN fan I am. My second favorite show that aired last summer was FX's DAMAGES. It was a very complex, brilliant legal-type drama staring a magnificent Glenn Close. I was really excited to read that William Hurt would be the guest star of the second season. Hurt is my George Clooney, Brad Pitt, etc., plus he can really act. (Read between those lines if you will.) I've seen him on the stage and in practically every one of his movies, though he's sort of become more of a character actor.

It's 2:59 p.m., EDT, and Charlie Gibson has just broken in to the ABC lineup. He's telling us about the earthquake in the Los Angeles airing. I, however, knew about it about ten minutes earlier.

So, I was playing a computer game late last night (Sunday, of course, NEVER at work) and had LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT on in the background. It was a new episode airing on USA. (There are so many L&Os going all the time, it's hard to keep track. But I love them all.)

As always, I'm loving ONE LIFE TO LIVE. The Mendorra stuff is probably my least favorite, because I just find faux royals so tedious, but it's still very entertaining. Thom Christopher is also so a great commanding presence.

Bree Williamson continues to shine as Jessica — now Tess — on ONE LIFE TO LIVE. Those scenes at Nash's funeral where she ripped into Jared and Natalie were terrific.

What a week last week was. AllI can say thank goodness for cable television and all those channels. I must add that I rarely say that — I often long for the days of rotary telephones and no cell phones or answering machines. (I will say now: I NEVER WANT A BLACKBERRY.) But I digress. Of course, last week we had the Daytime Emmys. Right now there are lots of photos to request from our top notch photo department, lots of things to coordinate. I watched the shows (and blogged about it Saturday morning) so I've commented on that. But be sure to pick up the Soap Opera Weekly that goes on sale July 2 because there will be so many fun pics of all the stars.

On with the show... the intro, which showed hosts Cameron Mathison and Sherri Shepherd running back and forth through each other's studios, was adorable. (THE VIEW and ALL MY CHILDREN studios are in the same building.) There were many cute little inside jokes: Joy Behar giving advice to Dr. Phil. The cast of AMC not knowing who Cameron was because they were in character. Barbara Walters' book everywhere.
