The Soap Opera Digest Awards
2000The 16th Annual Soap Opera Digest Awards, which aired live on NBC from the Palladium in Hollywood, was a night filled with surprises. Actors from seven out of 10 soaps took home trophies, and ABC made a huge sweep, winning every category it was nominated in. Daytime's newest addition, PASSIONS, made history by being the first soap to win an award in its first year (Josh Ryan Evans, Timmy, was named Outstanding Scene Stealer). Husband and wife team Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos (Hayley and Mateo, ALL MY CHILDREN) celebrated their double win for Younger Lead Actress and Actor. "Mark didn't think he was going to win," Ripa shared. As for her own award, she cracked, "My mother voted for Adrienne Frantz [Amber, BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL]."
