“The first thing I did was jump for joy!” reports Kate Linder (Esther, Y&R) of showing up for work after months of sheltering in place. “I couldn’t wait to bring Esther to life again. I’m so thrilled to be back and so proud of our show. Seeing the crew was very emotional. It was wonderful to see people, even from far away, and to know that they are well. My first instinct was to hug everyone, which of course we can’t do. Everyone has worked extremely hard to make sure we all stay safe.” While production was shut down, “I stayed in touch with Tracey Bregman [Lauren], Jess Walton [Jill] and Liz Hendrickson [Chloe],” and Linder was over the moon that her first scene was with Greg Rikaart (Kevin). “It felt great to be on set again and working with Greg was wonderful,” she enthuses. “It was the first time I had seen him in five months. We spent a lot of time running lines and catching up. I was so happy to see that he was well. Liz couldn’t be there physically, but I still felt her presence and look forward to the day that we are all together again.”

As a GOSSIP GIRL super-fan, Chloe Lanier (ex-Nelle, GH) was agog when one of the show’s alumni, Amanda Setton, joined the GH cast as Brook Lynn. “I saw her walking downstairs one day from the stage and I was like, ‘That can’t be ... Amanda Setton? There’s no way that’s her.’ And then I saw her again onstage and I was like, ‘Oh. My. God.’ I mean, I am obsessed with her. I was such a huge GOSSIP GIRL fan. I read all of the books, I was obsessed with the show, and I think she is absolutely fantastic. I was obsessed with her on THE MINDY PROJECT, too. She’s gorgeous — literally one of the most beautiful human beings I’ve ever seen in my life, like it’s unreal how stunning and beautiful she is —and when I introduced myself, I was like, ‘So, by the way, I am a huge, huge fan of GOSSIP GIRL,’ and she was so sweet.” Lanier’s opinion of Setton shot up even further when they shared scenes. “She was such a joy to work with,” Lanier enthuses. “I mean, she is just the nicest, most complimentary human being. She’s amazing! At one point, during a scene, I found myself thinking, ‘She helped take down [GOSSIP GIRL character] Blair Waldorf! She’s gone toe-to-toe with Blair Waldorf! This is blowing my mind!’ ”

Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy) takes all of the new filming protocols in stride. “My doll that they use for switches, it’s the old Hunter Tylo [ex-Taylor] wax figure that they used back in the day [when a presumed-dead Taylor returned in 2005], which is pretty crazy because it looks so real,” she marvels. “Then, they have this other doll that they use from time to time who I’ve been acting at. It’s like a head- less mannequin body. People can laugh and say, ‘Oh, this is crazy!’ but they do this on movies all the time. They use CGI and effects and that’s how you do it, so it’s not like it’s too crazy. We’re actors. We can do it. We’re used to crazier things.” As for whether her real-life spouse, Elan Ruspoli, has had to step in for kissing scenes, she relays, “We haven’t done anything yet, but I know Tanner [Novlan, Finn] will be filming with his wife [Kayla Ewell, ex-Caitlin] soon, which is great. So far, they have not asked my husband but he is so sweet. He’s not an actor but he’s like, ‘You know if they need me, I’ll come in.’ Katherine Kelly Lang’s [Brooke] man [Dominic Zoida] came in and so did Denise’s [Richards, Shauna]. It’s great that our significant others are so supportive.”

Pre-pandemic, A Martinez (ex-Eduardo, DAYS) enjoyed running into former co- stars. “I had lunch with Kassie [DePaiva, ex-Eve], and I bump into Stephen Nichols [Stephen] once in a while. We say hello,” he says. “I saw Jordi [Vilasuso, ex-Dario, DAYS; Rey, Y&R] at some function where I was there representing THE BAY and had a really nice conversation with him. I’ve seen Peter Bergman [Jack] from Y&R. Anytime I run into anyone in the community there’s a sense of being in a family that I still hold, even though of all the actors I know, there’s not too many people who spend less time on the town than I do. And this is pre-Covid. I’m not someone who is out doing much in terms of showing up to open- ings or social events. I do it but very rarely. It always makes me feel good when I do it because you’re remind- ed that you’re in a family.”
