Young and Restless’s Billy and Victoria Married and Other Big Soap Moments from September 9

In 1991, Wally Kurth (l., pictured with Stuart Damon as Alan Quartermaine), debuted as General Hospital's Ned Ashton, who now goes by Ned Quartermaine. Kurth, who had previously played Justin Kiriakis on Days of Our Lives (and has subsequently returned to), assumed the role from Kurt Robin McKinney. Kurth recalled to Soap Opera Digest in 2021 that Jane Elliot, who plays Ned's mother, Tracy, and had been his love interest on DAYS as Anjelica Deveraux, "helped me get the part" along with Casting Director Mark Teschner. "I went in with a hunger to make this role my own and Jane was there, right outside [then-Executive Producer] Gloria’s [Monty] door at the audition, and I immediately relaxed. She said, ‘Wally, whatever you do, do not tell her that we worked together on Days of Our Lives. Gloria likes discovering actors.’ Jane and I were dear friends and we’ve remained friends all these years. She was a mentor. She was someone who knew more than I did and I was wise enough to trust her and just watch and listen.”

In 2010, Billy Abbott (Billy Miller) and Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) wed on Young and Restless. Before the ceremony, Billy shared a moment with his ex, Mackenzie Browning, telling her that he truly wanted to be with Vicky. The bride was escorted down the aisle by her brother, Nick, after her father, Victor, made it clear that he would not be attending due to his disapproval of the marriage. Judge Anderson (Elinor Donahue) served as their officiant.

In 2013, General Hospital's Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebuad) gave birth to Dante and Lulu Falconeri’s biological son, Rocco Falconeri. At the time, Lulu and Dante were unaware that Britt had implanted herself with Lulu and Dante's stolen embryo, originally in an effort to pretend that she was carrying Patrick Drake's child. When Patrick threatened to sue her for custody of the unborn child, a panicked Britt then claimed that her true baby daddy was Brad Cooper. While squabbling with Sabrina Santiago (Patrick's new love interest) at Wyndemere, where Nikolas Cassadine had invited her to stay, Britt went into labor, and Sabrina had to deliver the baby. When he was born, Britt called him by the name Ben, but when Dante and Lulu reclaimed him, they renamed him Rocco.

In 2015, Ben Weston, also known as The Necktie Killer, murdered Paige Larson (True O'Brien) on Days of Our Lives. The actress told Soap Opera Digest that she had learned of her character's fate about a month in advance of shooting it. “I was sad because I was losing my DAYS family," she shared. It’s a very close-knit group of people.” O'Brien revealed of her grisly final scenes, “We actually shot more than what aired,” she reveals. “It was fun for me because I never shot anything where I played a character who dies. Knowing that someone is trying to kill you really gets the adrenaline pumping!” Playing a corpse proved tricky, though. “When Paige was dead, and people were crying over her, it was awful,” she groaned. “All I wanted to do was comfort them and say, ‘It’s okay, don’t cry,’ but I had to keep my expression frozen. It was difficult controlling that impulse to react.”

In 2021 on Young and Restless, Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) was taken aback when her tipsy and lonely ex-husband, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), confessed that he was still in love with her. "I’m not saying this because I’ve had too much to drink," he told her. "I’m saying it because it’s true. I have never stopped loving you. And I don’t think I ever will." "I don't know what to say," stammered Phyllis, who told him it was "a fact" that she was happy with Nick Newman. "Well, here’s another fact," replied Jack. "I still love you — truly, deeply. And I have to live with that. I can’t stop it. It won’t go away."
