Five Things That Happened On October 27 In Soap History

In 1986, Kassie DePaiva (then Kassie Wesley) made her daytime debut as Guiding Light's Chelsea Reardon. Early on, Chelsea was paired with Grant Aleksander's Phillip Spaulding, and DePaiva remarked to Soap Opera Digest in 2018, "I got a cover [of Digest] like four months into my show. I thought I had died and gone to heaven! Grant was great! He was a very intense, talented actor, and kind of was my first love interest." The actress ended her run in 1991 and the following year, she joined the cast of One Life To Live in her longest-running role, Blair Cramer.

In 2003, James DePaiva (r.) exited One Life To Live as Max Holden. DePaiva had played the role from 1987-90 before returning in 1991. In the storyline, Max left Llanview to go to Texas after the tragic death of his firstborn, son Al (Nathaniel Marston). In a 2017 interview with Soap Opera Digest, DePaiva candidly admitted that he had been personally unhappy and difficult to work with during his run on the show. "It was like I was in a hole and couldn’t find my way out of it — almost like a clinical depression, if I’d actually sought help for it,” he explained. “One Life To Live just happened to be what I was doing at the time,” he clarified. “It wasn’t One Life To Live, it was me. It probably would have been better for everyone if I had left earlier, but I was unable to at that time." He admitted, "As much as I needed to go away from One Life to Live, I still felt very hurt about being let go. I’m grateful I was, in retrospect."

In 2009, Jonathan Jackson (with Rebecca Herbst as Elizabeth Webber) returned to GH as Lucky Spencer after a 10-year absence, reclaiming the role from Greg Vaughan, who had played Lucky since 2003. Jackson marveled to Soap Opera Digest in 2010 of how his return came about, "It came out of the blue for me in terms of ABC contacting me.... I never thought the Lucky character would be available.” His second stint with the show lasted until 2011 and netted the actor two Daytime Emmys as Outstanding Supporting Actor. Jackson returned to the role again in 2015 for a brief arc tied to Anthony Geary's retirement from the role of Luke, then again in 2024.

In 2009, Brad Snyder (Austin Peck) succumbed to a gunshot wound after taking a bullet fired by his brother, Jack Snyder, who was in a shoot-out with baddie Ralph, who had kidnapped Brad's wife, Katie Peretti Snyder. Brad passed away on the same day as Katie gave birth to the couple's son, Jacob.

In 2011, Bold and Beautiful's Rick Forrester (Jacob Young) and Amber Moore (Adrienne Frantz) ran into each other at the coffeehouse, the first encounter for the former marrieds in many years. Amber had once been Rick's babysitter, and he had lost his virginity to her and married her twice, although the unions had ended badly. Amber apologized to Rick for how she had treated him and he replied that she shouldn't regret the past. When Amber asked if they could get together again, Rick was noncommittal.
