Five Things That Happened On March 29 In Soap History

In 2001, Ricky Paull Goldin made his Guiding Light debut as Gus Aitoro. The actor, who had previously appeared on Another World as Dean Frame and Young and Restless as Gary Dawson, became a fan fave in Springfield, and his Gus enjoyed a popular romantic pairing opposite Beth Ehlers's Harley Cooper. Goldin left the show in 2008. In announcing his exit in a statement to fans, Goldin wrote, " 'Gus' has been a huge part of my life and I will really miss portraying him and bringing this character to life for you. My seven years on Guiding Light have been a wonderful experience. Now it's time for a new adventure, a new chapter in my life. I will especially miss working with Beth Ehlers, since it doesn't get any better than 'Gus and Harley.' "

In 1999, Andrea Evans made her Bold and Beautiful debut as Tawny Moore, mother to Amber Moore. The actress was already a soap superstar via her role as Tina Lord on One Life to Live. She developed a close relationship with on-screen daughter Adrienne Frantz (Amber), who paid tribute to Evans upon her death in 2023, writing,  “I lost my tv mom yesterday! I am in shock and beyond devastated! Andrea may have been cast as my mom when I was 18 but she became my mom! Never did I ever think of her as a friend, only family!"

In 2004 on Young and Restless, Abby (Darcy Rose Byrnes) learned from her mother, Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), that Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) is her biological father — and not Brad Carlton, as she had been led to believe. Ashley explained to the little girl that she had originally planned to raise her child as a single parent. "I have never doubted that decision, not for one single second. You are the light of my life, sweetie. The one thing I'm having a little trouble with is... I never told your biological father the truth that you are his child." She went on to tell the girl, "You will always have a wonderful father in Brad. He has been and always will be everything you could ever want in a loving dad.... I hope I'm making the right decision in telling you, sweetie. Your father — your biological father — is Victor Newman."

In 2017 on General Hospital, Ned Ashton (Wally Kurth) asked Olivia Falconeri (Lisa LoCicero) to marry him (again) and she turned him down (again). She assured him that she loved him, and didn't want to risk having marriage screw it all up. "It ain't broke! Let's not fix it," she reasoned. Ned was upset and Olivia wondered if he was going to break up with her over her inability to take the leap of faith he was asking her to. But before they could finish processing their issues, gunmen stormed into the Floating Rib and took everyone hostage!

In 2023, General Hospital aired a special episode paying tribute to the late Sonya Eddy, who played Epiphany Johnson. In the show, the Port Charles community mourned the loss of the beloved nurse, who was eulogized by Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst, seated r.). Somber and heartfelt, the hour featured visits by Epiphany's former beau, Milo, and a woman whose life Epiphany died saving, played by Eddy's real-life friend, Yvette Nicole Brown. A fireworks display on the hospital roof capped off the tribute. Eddy, who won a posthumous Daytime Emmy for her work on GH, passed away on December 19, 2022.
