Five Things That Happened On March 16 In Soap History

In 1983 on Days of Our Lives, Neil Curtis (Joseph Gallison) and Marie Horton (Lanna Saunders) tied the knot. Neil had turned to Marie during a rough patch in his romance with Liz Chandler, but even after the two exchanged vows, Neil continued to pine for Liz. His marriage to Marie ended in divorce — but not before Liz accidentally shot her, mistaking her for a robber!

In 1998, Roger Thorpe and Amanda Spaulding left Springfield together on Guiding Light, marking the end of actors Dennis Parlato and Toby Poser's stints on the show. Parlato had joined the GL ranks in 1997 when the show recast Roger after his beloved portrayer, the late Michael Zaslow, began to experience health issues. (The actor was later diagnosed with ALS, and he passed away in 1998.) Poser had begun playing Amanda in 1995.

In 1998, after Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson, below r.) learned from his half brother, Nikolas Cassadine, that his father (Anthony Geary's Luke Spencer) raped his mother, Laura Spencer (Genie Francis), Lucky angrily confronted his dad. Lucky was particularly attuned to the horrors of rape given that he had been helping schoolmate Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) through the devastating aftermath of her sexual assault.

In 2006, the romance of Jasper "Jax" Jacks (Ingo Rademacher) and Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) continued to heat up on General Hospital. The pair was drawn together as they colluded to conceal the true paternity of the late Courtney Matthews's son, John (who was renamed Spencer once the truth came out and the baby was revealed to be Nikolas Cassadine's biological offspring). The two shared a passionate kiss, but broke from it and wondered if pursuing their attraction was a wise thing to be doing. Carly concluded that they should stay just friends and started to leave, but Jax stopped her and kissed her again.

In 2021, Chad Brannon returned to General Hospital as the ghost of Zander Smith, the character he played from 2000-04. Zander's spirit appeared to his son, Cameron (William Lipton), who went to the cemetery as he struggled to process the murder of his beloved stepfather, Franco Baldwin. Lipton told Soap Opera Digest of his experience working with Brannon, "When I read that script, I was like, 'Oh, my goodness, this is going to be such a great episode!' [I] was extremely excited to see what that would be like on the screen. We just worked together so well. He’s so incredibly talented and it was such an honor working with him in front of the camera and just working with him outside of the camera, running lines with him and getting to know him.... It was an incredible day at work."
