Nicholas Chavez Made His General Hospital Debut And Other Events From July 1 In Soap History

In 1968, George Reinholt made his Another World debut as Steve Frame. He remained with the show until 1975, returning for a day in 1989 to help mark the show's 25th anniversary. During his run, Reinholt's Steve became a supercouple opposite Jacqueline Courtney's Alice.

In 1976, Jack Fenelli (Michael Levin) and Mary Ryan (Kate Mulgrew) tied the knot on Ryan's Hope. To marry off its signature couple, the show filmed on location at a church in New York City, where RH was based.

In 1982, Emma Samms made her General Hospital debut as Holly Sutton in scenes opposite Anthony Geary's Luke Spencer. Samms recalled to Soap Opera Digest in 2023, "My very first day was actually on location, when they put me in that rather green and very cold lake to swim around. I was literally thrown into the deep end!” The actress marveled at the amazing run that followed. "We went on fantastic locations, they put me in the center of a love triangle, which is the world’s best job, really, for an actress! I mean, it was extraordinary, looking back, that I went into that with so little experience. But because Gloria [Monty, then-executive producer] was such a good director as well as a producer and because Tony was so generous and such a kind person to work with, I just sort of got on with it."

In 1991, Robert (Tristan Rogers) and Anna (Finola Hughes) remarried on GH. Fun fact: Jane Elliot, whose character, Tracy, attended the wedding, told Digest in 2012 that because the location shoot at an arboretum in Pasadena, CA took place during the nail-biting seventh game of the NBA playoffs, "I had brought a little portable TV to watch it on and I put it down the front of my dress! I was standing in the background of this wedding watching the NBA playoffs down my chest and all of the extras who were in the background with me are all hanging over my chest watching the basketball game down my dress [laughs]."

In 2021, Nicholas Alexander Chavez made his General Hospital debut as Spencer Cassadine, who had last been played by Nicolas Bechtel. The future Daytime Emmy winner, who exited the show in 2023 and has gone on to fame in projects like the Netflix miniseries Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, had never appeared on television before landing the role of Spencer. He told Soap Opera Digest that at his screen test, "There were a ton of guys there. I mean, usually when you go to screen-test, it’s like four or five people. There were 12 to 15 guys there and they were all gorgeous. They were all just stunning! And so I’m looking around and I’m like, ‘Jeez, this is some stiff competition!’ I kept telling myself that all I can do is be who I am, ‘They’ll pick who they pick but I am who I am and that’s what I’m going to give them.’ "
