Five Things That Happened On December 24 In Soap History

In 1958, Jeff Baker (Mark Rydell) and Penny Hughes (Rosemary Prinz) wed on As The World Turns. The pair is often considered the first supercouple in soap history and had actually eloped while still in high school; their parents flipped out and the union was annulled. They found their way back together and were eventually pronounced husband and wife in a proper church ceremony.

In 2002, As The World Turns's Lily and Holden Snyder (Martha Byrne and Jon Hensley) welcomed daughter Natalie. Big sister Hope had told her brother, Luke, that she knew he was counting on a brother, but she was confident the baby would be a girl because she had wished for it. She turned out to be right! Lily went into labor at home and when Dr. Bob Hughes showed up with a slew of other Oakdale residents singing Christmas carols, the timing was perfect. With his assistance, Lily delivered a beautiful and healthy daughter.

In 2003, Ross Marler (Jerry verDorn) and Blake Thorpe Marler (Elizabeth Keifer) remarried on Guiding Light. The ceremony was officiated by Richard Winslow, and the couple exchanged personal vows. Blake noted to Ross that as they entered into marriage together for a second time, "We know how hard it is to honor those vows, the kind of work and dedication and trust it takes to love each other day in and day out in the face of adversity. And despite that — maybe even because of it — we are here reaffirming our commitment to one another."

In 2007, All My Children's Tad Martin (Michael E. Knight) and Krystal Carey (Bobbie Eakes) delivered some shocking news to their family, friends, and one significant foe. They had been gearing up for a custody battle over their baby girl, Jenny, but Julia Santos couldn't help but notice that they were getting along surprisingly well. Hedged Tad, "Krystal and I decided that we had to put Jenny first. You know, she deserves a good home with two parents that get along, aren't at each other's throats all the time." But there was even more to the story, which Tad revealed once Adam, Krystal's former husband, arrived. Announced Tad, "Last night, Krystal and I got married."    

In 2011, Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) remarried Billy Abbott (Billy Miller) on Christmas Eve. Billy's daughter Delia happily agreed to be the flower girl at the last-minute affair, and Jack served as his brother's best man. Jill and Nikki helped Victoria primp and Nikki presented her with jewelry that had belonged to her great-grandmother as "something borrowed." During the ceremony, Billy beamed, "I love you, and I have done some stupid things in my life, and the dumbest was leaving you alone. And it landed me square in hell, and not because of the accommodations but because I wasn't with you. I'm not going anywhere else. This wedding, it's it, because we're not doing this again. This is meant to be."
