Five Things That Happened On April 21 In Soap History

In 1983, Bryan Phillips (Todd Davis) and Claudia Johnston (Bianca Ferguson) wed on General Hospital. Their ceremony was the first GH wedding featuring a Black couple. The nuptials took place in the chapel at the hospital and a festive reception followed at Kelly's Diner.

In 2003, Tyler Christopher returned to General Hospital as Nikolas Cassadine, a role he had originally played from 1996-99. Before he was lured back to the show, Nikolas was played by Coltin Scott. Christopher remained with GH until 2011, then returned again from 2013-16. During his final stint on the show, the late actor took home the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor for his work as Nikolas.

In 2005, All My Children’s Zach Slater (Thorsten Kaye) proposed to Kendall Hart (Alicia Minshew), but it was a business proposition rather than a romantic one. Of course, in true soap fashion, the unlikely duo fell genuinely in love and after their first union ended in divorce, they tied the knot again. Alicia Minshew marveled to Soap Opera Digest in 2011, "If you had told me that we would end up as 'Zendall,' a couple for seven years, I would have thought you were crazy. I had no idea that Thorsten and I would have the kind of chemistry we have."

In 2009, EJ DiMera (James Scott) and Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker) married on Days of Our Lives — that is, after Sami Brady interrupted the ceremony. EJ decided to speak to both Nicole and Sami privately in the vestibule. Nicole railed at Sami for trying to ruin her wedding, but Sami denied the claim, but before she could explain further, Lexie arrived and revealed that Philip Kiriakis had been shot! Sami believed EJ was involved in the shooting and stormed out. Nicole and EJ's wedding resumed.
