Y&R’s Tracey Bregman Pays Tribute to Cousin Bob Mackie: ‘The World Certainly Has Less Shimmer’
The Young and the Restless star Tracey E. Bregman took to social media to pay tribute to her cousin, the legendary fashion designer Bob Mackie, who passed away on September 14 at the age of 87.

“The world certainly has less shimmer, glitter and shine today with the loss of my cousin @bobmackie,” Bregman wrote on Instagram, where she shared a photo of Mackie with her mother, actress Suzanne Lloyd. “I was on the board of Otis [College of Art and Design, where Mackie worked as a mentor for years] for some time and saw what he gave back to the students and up and coming designers.”
The actress went on to praise Mackie’s accomplishments during his storied career, noting, “His costumes for @cher and @itscarolburnett go down in history.”
The Y&R veteran also related a fond memory of Mackie that her mother had shared with her. “My mom remembers him dressing Barbies and this morning told me a story [that] when he was young and living with his grandma, he designed a stage for an opera complete with costumes. He had lifelike doll figures that he made, and my mother was just in awe.
“I had the great chance of wearing his costumes a couple of times,” Bregman wrote. “I always felt special to be able to put on one of his dresses. Rest in Peace sweet Bobby. 🦋🕊️🌟💗”
Mackie got his start working as a designer and assistant at Paramount Studios in the ‘60s, then went on to craft stage costumes for stars like Judy Garland, Mitzi Gaynor, Diana Ross, Cher, Elton John and Whitney Houston. He notably created all of the costumes for the entire run of The Carol Burnett Show, and also collaborated with Mattel on multiple outfits for Barbie dolls. His glamorous designs are still worn on the red carpet by stars like Zendaya, Alix Earle and Sabrina Carpenter. Over the course of his extensive career, Mackie earned a Tony Award, multiple Emmy Awards, and was honored with three Academy Award nominations.
