At the trial, Sharon took the stand and — yowza! For a woman in court, speaking in a trial which concerns her recently deceased young daughter, her dress was really low-cut. Anyway, Christine began questioning Sharon, who admitted that Cassie had just reached the age where she was beginning to change. Chris mentioned that Sharon had gotten a job before Cassie died; Sharon thought Chris was implying that she was negligent. Chris denied this, then got Sharon to admit that Cassie had lied to her about going to a party the night of the accident. Sharon insisted that even if Cassie lied, the teen still hadn’t known how to drive; Chris debated this. Sharon said she didn’t know what happened to the clothes Cassie wore. After, Glenn insisted in his closing statements that Daniel had been driving and the case was much simpler than Chris was trying to make it out to be. “If the only other thing in that car was a labrador retriever, the defense would be a dog was driving!” Glenn said. “[The defendant] robbed Cassie Newman of her dreams and the chance to live her life.” In her closing statement, Christine argued that Daniel is innocent until proven guilty and that in this case, it’s just been assumed that Daniel was the guilty party. She also argued that Cassie didn’t know how to drive a car … and that could’ve been why the car wasn’t driven well on that night. “This is a young man who has the potential to achieve so much in his life,” Chris said. “We don’t know if Daniel Romalotti is a drunk driver. We haven’t proven it beyond a reasonable doubt. I am begging you to set the highest possible standard of proof … because to take away his years because of a presumption would be a crime. That is not the face of a killer.” The judge then went to decide his verdict. An impressed Phyllis went to thank Christine, but Chris was honest with Daniel. “We’re gonna need a miracle,” she sighed.

Nick returned home after visiting Alice and admired a photo of Cassie. “What am I gonna do?” he whispered to himself. “You should be here with us.” He then had a vision of Cassie, appearing first as a school girl; then in a blue cocktail dress going to her prom; then as a high-school graduate (Aw, man, now this is making the racapper cry a little….); then as a college-bound student; then as a bride. When the fantasy ended, Nick held the photo close to himself. In his mind, he again heard Cassie’s final words, “Don’t blame Daniel. It wasn’t his fault. It was me.” Nick went into the backyard and began digging.

Gloria called Michael and Lauren over and blasted them for “making a huge mistake.” “Why don’t you tell Lauren and me what sin we’ve committed that’s got you so worked up in a froth?” Michael said, trying not to laugh. Gloria went on to say she thought the family should be included in their wedding; Lauren told her that she agreed, leaving a shocked Gloria speechless. “It’s going to be the most fabulous wedding in Genoa City,” Lauren enthused. Gloria, of course, was thrilled with the news. Later, Lauren snuggled with Michael and thanked him for giving her the life with her son she never thought possible. “The ghost of Sheila Carter is finally gone,” he stated. Err… not so fast…

In Toronto, Scott told Brenda (really Sheila) that he was excited to go to G.C., because he’d never really seen it. “You’re obviously a wonderful son,” Sheila smiled, “but I have to wonder what this is going to do to our writing project.” (Um, you could always wait a few days or e-mail each other, if you’re really that desperate to keep it up while he’s away.) Scott apologized to a very passive-agressive Brenda. “I have to put my mother first. We have a lot of time to make up for,” he told her, then invited her to go to G.C. with him.

JT and Brittany arrived at the Chancellor estate and were let in by Mac (wearing her hair up and a poofy skirt, which made her look a little like Donna Reed). The three were shocked when Kay offered to let them live there. Brit turned her down, but Kay insisted. JT pointed out that Brit and baby Josh are still in danger, but Kay promised them that her home is safe. Brit still wasn’t sure. Kay suggested they think about her proposal over some lemonade. After, Mac convinced Brit to move in, while Kay did the same with JT. The four then toasted to their new living arrangement. “Looks like we’re roommates again,” JT said to a happy Mac, reaching over to hug her. “It’s about time.”
